Akshay Kumar’s Rustom Pavri

What’s ’50s: High-waisted trousers. He asked me why the trousers have to be high-waisted because he had never worn high-waisted trousers. In the ’50s, the trousers were worn at the navel. Now people wear their trousers at the hip. He asked me if it was not going to look foolish. I told him that back then it was a sign of dressing like a gentleman and it also gives a better shape to the torso and makes the legs look longer. I had to explain the entire silhouette. The day I did the trial, he gave me a pat on the back. He carries it off so well!
We have used hand-stitching on Akshay’s trousers. His denims were dark denims. They used to fold their jeans at the bottom, very James Dean kind of style. Even his leather jackets had hand-stitching. We have given him long collars and lace-up shoes.  We ensured that the navy uniform was pure cotton and we would starch it. The sleeve length back then was till the mid-biceps. Back then navy blue was a day colour. I spoke to a navy officer who was in the navy in the ’50s.
