Ezra Miller’s Flash breaks the DC multiverse as he time travels to the past to save his family and meets both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton’s Batman in the trailer of The Flash, dropped by Warner Bros. during the Super Bowl on Monday.

The almost three-minute-long trailer, which also shows glimpses of Kryptonian supervillain General Zod and Superman’s cousin Supergirl (played by Sasha Calle), appears to be the first DC film to fully explore the multiverse concept.

Miller’s Barry Allen runs into another version of himself, and the duo are joined by two Batman —Affleck and Keaton— and Supergirl on their mission to save the world from Michael Shannon’s villainous General Zod, first seen in the 2013 Superman film Man of Steel.

Barry, who time-travelled to the past against Batman’s wish to change an event from his past, has to now deal with consequences of altering reality. Barry gets help from a team of superheroes from across the multiverse as he defends the world against villains from different universes.

Miller first appeared as Flash in a cameo back in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The official synopsis reads, “Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Superheroes to turn to,” reads the synopsis.

The film is expected to play a major role in the evolution of the DC Universe under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Helmed by Andy Muschietti, best known for directing 2017’s supernatural horror film It, the script of The Flash is penned by Christina Hodson. The film is produced by Michael Disco and Barbara Muschietti. It also features Kiersey Clemons, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Antje Traue and Maribel Verdú.

The Flash is set to release in theatres on June 16.
