Antony Armstrong-Jones (The Crown)

In the critically-acclaimed Netflix series, Princess Margaret’s husband Antony Armstrong-Jones (Matthew Goode) starts his career as a fashion photographer and meets Margaret (Vanessa Kirby) at a wedding where he’s doing photographer duties. Antony excels in showing people as they are rather than capturing “perfect” images. We loved that epic scene in episode 5 where he clicks Margaret with finesse and confidence, even keeping her waiting till he gets the perfect shot.

Bunny (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani)

Bunny (Ranbir Kapoor) made photography cool for Gen Y, with all of us wanting to get paid to go backpacking across the world. The bit where Bunny walks around the exotic locales of Paris with his camera resting on his shoulders as the soulful Ilahi plays out is one of our fave scenes. And yes, RK is as much a natural behind the camera as he’s in front of it.

Leonard Shelby (Memento)

No one has been as badass with a Polaroid as Leonard Shelby (Guy Pearce). The guy with short-term memory loss in the Christopher Nolan film is out for revenge, with his Polaroid helping him remember people and places. It made for an unforgettable film, with the camera acting like a character itself. Closer home, Aamir Khan went click-click with a Polaroid camera in Ghajini, said to be a nod to Memento.

Colin Creevey (Harry Potter)

Colin (Hugh Mitchell) toting around a camera was probably our first introduction to the paparazzi. We vividly remember reading about his ever-present lens following Harry all over Hogwarts.

Jonathan Byers (Stranger Things)

Photography is an integral part of Jonathan Byers’s (Charlie Heaton) personality. The scene where he and Nicole (Glennellen Anderson) are in the darkroom is especially memorable. He gets so lost in developing the pictures that he doesn’t even look at her while answering her questions.

Sid (Wake Up Sid)

Ranbir Kapoor and a camera make for a compelling pair on screen. In Wake Up Sid, wayward youngster Sid (Ranbir) found purpose in life when he picked up a camera to turn his passion into profession. From the beginning of the Ayan Mukerji film, we see Sid click anything and everything in his eye view and by the end of it, we had all turned into budding shutterbugs, wanting to work in a cool office like Mumbai Beat. And who can forget that beautiful scene at Mumbai’s Marine Drive where Aisha (Konkona Sensharma) finally lets Sid take her picture.

Peter Parker (Spider-Man)

He may be soaring from building to building saving the world, but an important part of Peter Parker’s (Tobey Maguire) life is his job as a photographer for The Daily Bugle. We chose Tobey Maguire’s portrayal of the web-slinger primarily because it brings out this part of Peter’s persona the most, and Maguire essayed it to perfection, seeming as much at home with a camera in his hands as he did in the iconic red-and-blue suit.

Jessica (Jessica Jones)

Her camera is an essential part of Jessica Jones’s  (Krysten Ritter) private detective persona and she’s almost never seen without it when investigating a case. Her ‘expertise’ at climbing on top of extremely high spots in the city allows her to capture images that would be impossible to take by others.

Farhan Qureshi (3 Idiots)

Egged on by pal Rancho (Aamir Khan), Farhan (R. Madhavan) followed his heart to give up engineering for photography in this Rajkumar Hirani film that urged us to never let go of our dreams. Farhan’s defining moment with the camera? When he happily clicks the pictures of all his batchmates on graduation day, but his smile fades when he looks through his lens and watches Rancho quietly leaving college without telling even his best friends.

Tyler Down (13 Reasons Why)

One of the most complex characters of a complex show, Tyler Down is the photography enthusiast at Liberty High, who stalks Hannah (Katherine Langford) and circulates a picture of hers that acts as one of the reasons why she takes her life. While Tyler has many  faults, we were impressed by Devin Druid’s brilliant performance of this character with shades of grey.

Tintin

The cutest photographer ever! Tintin may be referred to as a boy reporter, but he’s an adventurer and a photojournalist at heart. In many of his adventures — Tibet to Peru —  Tintin was often seen with a camera slung around his neck, mostly as a photo enthusiast, but sometimes those pictures even helped him crack a case or two.
