Launch of sananda Tv

Bangla tellydom got a brand new kickstart as Sananda TV debuted on Monday at 7pm. With half a dozen new primetime serials on offer, the regional general entertainment space got a new lease of life. With varied subjects and a mix of familiar and fresh faces, Sananda TV’s shows have already created a buzz on the small screen. From Bindi (on women trafficking) to Amar Naam Joyeeta (about a feisty lady lawyer in a male-dominated profession) to Alpo Alpo Premer Galpo (a sweet love story of a not-so-rich girl and a Mr Moneybag) to Mrs Sinha Roy (featuring Laboni Sarkar as the domineering matriarch of an affluent family) to Sobinoy Nibedon (about a Marwari girl and a Bengali boy) to Raj Chakraborty’s Proloy Aasche (Abir Chatterjee playing a tough cop on a mission to remove all evil from society), it’s all happening on Sananda TV. Tune in or lose out.

SRK riot AT IIFA Awards

Even though IIFA this year was more about the minnows from B-town, Shah Rukh’s performance on the Toronto stage made it a night to remember (the event was shown on STAR Plus over the weekend). SRK’s finale was punctuated with his inimitable quips. And Salman, not surprisingly, was the butt of his wisecracks. Salman’s dance steps in the title song of Dabangg seemed like his pants were quite loose, Shah Rukh said. Of course, before things could get out of hand, he added how Arbaaz-Malaika (Salman’s brother and sister-in-law and also Dabangg’s producers) made for the most adorable couple in the film industry.

White Collar is red hot

White Collar Season 1 came to a close last week with Kate, Neal Caffrey’s (conman turned FBI consultant) girlfriend — for whom he had escaped from prison — being blown up in a helicopter. Caffrey was saved as he was detained by FBI agent Peter Burke who wanted Caffrey to stay back. Season 2 started with Caffrey and Burke’s jobs being in jeopardy in the aftermath of Kate’s death and to prove themselves they have to capture a bank robber known as the Architect. The STAR World show has been super hot ever since it started beaming on weeknights at 10.

The girls grow up in chhoti si zindagi

Last week, Isha and Ira grew up on Zee TV’s big-ticket show Chhoti Si Zindagi. All these weeks the two little sisters, who were abandoned by their father at the gate of an orphanage, had been learning the ropes of survival in the big, bad world. Now after a 10-year leap Isha and Ira are older, separated by circumstances and it’s an all new story now revolving around their lives. The serial produced by JD Majethia’s Hats Off Productions now has Toral Rasputra (in picture left) and Leena Jumani playing Isha and Ira.
