Kaizzad Capadia, K11 Academy of Fitness Sciences

“My seminars at The Fit Expo 2016 will be extremely detailed with a Q&A section too. I share information that is usable — from bio-mechanics (which in layman terms means form and technique) to nutrition as it applies to fat loss, muscle gain, endurance sports like marathons and strength sports like power-lifting and body-building,” said Kaizzad, arguably the first professional personal trainer in India, having started his personal training career in 1993.

Kaizzad is co-founder and director of K11 Academy of Fitness Sciences, funded partners of the NSDC under the Union ministry of skill development and entrepreneurship. His academy plans to open six centres, and Ahmedabad  and Calcutta are next. “Bengal has a rich heritage of physique culture with the first two Mr Universe of India hailing from here — Monotosh Roy (1951) and Manohar Aich (1952),” he signed off.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Fitness centres of the city participating in the Showcase Your Talent championship are Karma Fitness Studio, Skulpt, KravMaga, Mantra, Bull Strength, Kick Fitness, SangVi and Mrityunjoy Roy and his group.

Fitness demonstrations by Shibayan Ganguly (martial arts) and Shyamantak Ganguly (karate). Competitions open to all like Flip the Tyre, Powerlifting for Men and Women and Mr & Ms Physique in the non-body building  segment. Professional body-builders can compete with each other in a state-level bodybuilding competition called Bodyline Classic, in association with West Bengal Amateur Bodybuilders’ Association.

For the first time in this region, a Mixed Martial Arts competition will be held in a professional set-up — a 400sq ft cage!

Cutting-edge technology products will be on display — an opportunity for health clubs, spas, corporate and hospitality gyms to upgrade or open new set-ups.

The B2B & B2C fitness and wellness exhibition will house fitness accessories, health and nutrition foods, cold press juices, protein supplements, trendy fit-tech apps and trackers, latest gizmos and devices and fashionable sportswear. There will be organic food stalls by Forever Living, Rainbow, The Yellow Straw and Detalks Adda with different kinds of salads and detox juices.

Arunava Bhattacharyya, master trainer with Optimum Nutrition

“We know who our audience is. They are people who want to lose weight, gain muscle, get ready for a wedding or a photo shoot. But the people we want to appeal to are people like our parents or people who we meet everyday like the domestic help or liftman who need awareness. It’s not like we will tell them to go to a gym, but it’s about making them aware of what food they are eating and how much water they are drinking in a day. So the objective of this forum is, more than anything else, to make people aware,” said Arun, master trainer with Optimum Nutrition, the in-house nutrition brand of Glanbia. The Calcutta boy, who studied in St John’s High School, is now based in Bangalore where he is also a lifestyle and nutrition coach and personal trainer.

Sucheta Pal, Zumba

“An event like this was much-needed in Calcutta and I hope it’s going to be the pioneer of more such events. I feel privileged to be a part of it. Zumba is not the standard form of fitness but it’s fun and engaging for everyone. I’ve been India’s first Zumba education specialist since 2010 and I think we’ve come a long way. I travel to Calcutta almost twice a year for events, so I think the city is definitely ready for an event on the scale of The Fit Expo,” said Sucheta, who grew up in Ranchi and has also been trained in jazz, ballet and Bharatanatyam. She’ll be at The Fit Expo on November 28.
