I made a fashion faux pas when...

I wore a feathered red top to a function. I had picked it up from Scotland. The neckline had ostrich feathers. I was so uncomfortable and with people ogling, I ran away after half-an-hour!

My favourite shop stops are...

Shopper’s Stop and Metro Plaza. But I also pick up clothes from wherever I go for my shoots, like Bangkok and Singapore. I am not a shopaholic but when I shop I buy in bulk.

I am not brand-conscious...

But I do wear branded clothes. I pick up whatever catches my eye and would look good on me.

I track fashion trends...

Though I don’t follow them blindly. I go through fashion glossies and surf channels. For instance, micro minis may be the current rage but I might not buy one. How I dress is completely up to me.

My fashion icons are...

Julia Roberts, Rekha, Hema Malini and Simi Garewal. I like the way Julia Roberts dresses. Everything suits her. Rekha and Hema Malini are stunning; Simi Garewal is elegant. Supriya Debi had a fantastic sense of dressing. I like her bouffant and eye make-up.

I am most comfortable in...

Jeans and T-shirt if I am with friends; salwar kameez when I am with family.

A white salwar kameez.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Chhuti & Raja.

Is my Thakuma’s wedding sari that she passed on to me recently. It’s pure silk and heavily embroidered with gold zari work

I mostly wear designer clothes...

It’s very important for me to be well-dressed all the time. That’s part of my job. I don’t care for the budget while buying. The price is not a problem if I really like something.

My shop stop is...

FabIndia for kurtas and khadi stuff. For other outfits, I don’t shop in Calcutta at all. I prefer to buy on my tours abroad or when I am in Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Consulting my designers and going through glossies. But I don’t always follow trends.

When I shop...

I don’t worry about the budget at all. I love to buy pretty clothes and if I think I can carry them off, I don’t give it a second thought.

I mostly design my clothes myself...

And I prefer to get them stitched. I give my inputs to my designers. I am not into brands at all.

Westside, from where I pick up casuals sometimes.

Leafing through magazines and watching TV. But I don’t follow anyone’s style. On the contrary, I think people follow Debashree’s style.

Sushmita Sen, Shabana Azmi and Sharmila Tagore. Sushmita dresses very gracefully. I love Shabana Azmi and Sharmila Tagore’s clothes. Noyonika Chatterjee is very smartly dressed too.

A pair of jeans and T-shirt. Also saris, not the heavy ones though.

Matching shoes and a matching purse to go with my clothes.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee and Kiran Uttam Ghosh.

A chiffon sari with brocade border that Sabyasachi had gifted me. I don’t know the price, but it looks very expensive!

And I never go over the top. I like to dress elegantly, yet I like to look glamorous and attractive.

I am a compulsive shopper...

And I never bother about the budget. I pick up very expensive stuff too if I feel I can’t let go of them. As a star I always need to add variety to my wardrobe.

In Singapore, London and sometimes in Mumbai. I don’t shop much in Calcutta.

But I buy non-branded stuff too. I love clothes designed by Ritu Kumar, they are very elegant and I buy a lot of her clothes.

As being an actress, I have to be in the loop. I do keep trends in mind when I choose my clothes, but sometimes I just wear what I feel like even if it is not in fashion.

Rekha, in a traditional sari. The other one is Jennifer Lopez. But I don’t follow them.

A lehenga choli that I bought from Sabyasachi and a gown from Dolce & Gabbana. Both are very expensive.

I buy clothes very frequently...

And I don’t think about my wallet when I am on a shopping spree. I pick up whatever I like as long as it matches my income. But I do have a couple of designer dresses from fashion designer Vikram Phadnis, which are a little expensive but since he is a buddy, the price is not a problem!

My favourite shop stops are...

City Centre and Forum, occasionally. I shop a lot in Mumbai and abroad.

I am not brand-conscious...

I would rather pick up something that’s smart, comfortable and affordable. I don’t mind picking up clothes from roadside shops in Mumbai.

I track fashion trends by...

Flipping through magazines, surfing channels and watching Bollywood films to check what’s ‘in’. They inspire me, but I always add my own creativity to my clothes. I like to mix and match.

Stylish stars I admire are...

Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan. Akshay Kumar is amazingly well-dressed most of the time. I like Salman Khan’s sense of style and collection of clothes. Both of them have great bodies to carry whatever they wear. In Tollywood, I like Jisshu’s collection of caps and Bumbada’s (Prosenjit) shoes. I also like the clothes Swastika wears.

I am most comfortable in…

Denim and T-shirt. In winter, I would go for a jacket.

Dhuti-panjabi and formal shirts.

The designers I like are...

Vikram Phadnis, Rohit Bal and Rocky S. I wear a lot of their creations.

A leather jacket by Vikram Phadnis. It’s pretty steep!

Swastika

I go with my own style...

But when I wear a sari, my mom says I emulate her. She was very fashionable in her times and I adore her sense of style.

I don’t like repeating my clothes...

And being a star I have to keep my wardrobe updated. I have no fixed budget for clothes. I wouldn’t spend much on everyday wear but I like to splurge occasionally. I am not into brands; I pick up stuff from the roadside stalls in Gariahat too.

Atreyee’s studio and Jyoti Khaitan. I shop a lot in Mumbai and on my trips abroad. I am not a regular shopper but if I like something I buy it.

I track fashion trends by...

Flipping through magazines, watching MTV and catching up on Bollywood. But I don’t wear something just because it is ‘in’. The outfit has to look good on me.

Jeans and T-shirt. And skirts and salwar kameez too.

Great lingerie. I go berserk while shopping for lingerie. I have loads, and extremely expensive ones!

Is a sari that cost me Rs 33,000. It’s heavily embroidered and I’m yet to wear it. I am waiting for a suitable occasion.

Tarun Tahiliani and Raghavendra Rathore.

My fashion icons are...

Too many to mention. The whole of Bollywood is very well-dressed. Hrithik Roshan is very prim and proper. Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan look good in casuals. I like Katrina Kaif’s sense of dressing. I adore Rituda’s (Rituparno Ghosh) sense of style. He is classy and dignified. Jeet too has a great sense of style.

Jisshu

My wife Nilanjanaa does most of my shopping...

When she visits her parents in Mumbai. That’s three or four times a year. I have no fixed budget and I am happy with roadside stuff too, provided it’s from Mumbai.

I am not much into brands...

But I do have a few Zara and Gucci shirts.

I keep an eye on fashion trends...

But I go by my individual taste. I go for stuff that suits me.

Arjun Rampal and Shah Rukh Khan. Arjun wears very cool, trendy clothes and he knows how to carry them off. I love SRK’s suits. They look good on him; the cuts are very good.

Jeans and a Tee.

I don’t have a fave designer...

Because I simply don’t buy designer clothes. They are not very affordable.

My most expensive outfit is...

A black suit that Nilanjanaa bought me three years ago. It’s expensive and elegant.

I repeat a dress only twice...

Not in the same year though!
