US First Lady Michelle Obama Has Taken The Season's Top Looks And Made Them Her Own. T2 Raises A Toast To Her Style Sense Published 27.04.11, 12:00 AM

Stacking ’em up

Sometimes one is not enough. We like layers. She does too. Those black bangles and bracelets look very effective when clubbed together. Just the right dash of accessories the bare arm needs.

One-shoulder

One-shoulder might have reached the classic status in the fashion world but let’s not forget that it all began with a trend. And trendy she does look. She adds drama with a drape — another big ‘it’ look. Nice!

Acid colour

It’s all bright and bold this summer and Mrs O has proved she’s not shy to do colour. Long gone are the whites and blacks; her pop picks are our pop picks too — neon green, fuchsia, tangerine…

Obi belt

Okay, so it’s not strictly an obi belt but the feel is so obi. It’s nice how she has nodded to the major Orient wave this season without making it obvious. And the tan, it’s perfect.

Wide-legged pants

Move over skinny, it’s time for roomy to occupy pride of place. Her pants are a perfect pair. Flattering and fashionable, these leave no space for argument. Leg space wins, hands down.

Stripes

The First Lady shows her stripes even on a holiday! Colourful sailor stripes are the way to go this season; even more apt when placed on a relaxed silhouette like this one. Bright unadulterated shades of red, yellow and blue balanced with some grey. We are taken!

Chandelier earrings

As many Indian women celebrate the return of their favourite item in their jewellery box, we like how Michelle Obama balances the pearl bracelets with the delicate danglers. Is she easing out the necklace? We think so!

But there’s still one trend that Ms Obama overlooked. it’s tuck-in! just what you need for a quick touch of chic

When was the last time you tucked your shirt in? If the answer is school, then sorry girls, you are not keeping up enough. ‘Tuck in for quick chic’ is the latest fashion mantra. Read on for how and why...

Five tips to tuck it right

If the look is too new for you and you are feeling self-conscious, do a test drive in front of close friends and family. It will help you in two ways — your friends will tell you if it’s just not working. And your comfort level will rise.

Smoothen out the back and front. You don’t want the fabric to bunch up on any side.

If you feel stunted tucked in, put on the stilettos. Play with proportions.

Layer your look. The attention slips away by just the right amount. You remain chic and also comfortable.

Belt up. It’s a fabulous finishing touch to the look. And whether you want to be logo-laden or not is up to you. With some looks, a skinny belt works and the others call for a wider obi style. So try a few options to see which belt suits you best.

It’s the high-waist trend that has brought the tuck-in look back into the limelight. It’s easier for most body types to tuck into a high-waist silhouette. Only super-slim, washboard abs can afford to tuck into a low-waist unless, of course, the top is loose and oversized. One word of advice though: when you tuck in, make sure it stays tucked in and doesn’t get messy.
