SPORTS I LOVE TO PLAY

I have been a national-level athlete, plus I have been a swimmer. So sports is something I have always been a part of. Being in a boarding school — I’ve studied in Mayo College — you sort of play a lot of sports. I actually have started playing tennis now. I used to play a bit of tennis earlier, and now I have a fantastic tennis court in my building, so now I encourage myself to go and play that.

Among the recent ones, I like Anju Modi, I like Anita Dongre. They make the kind of clothes that I like to wear.

LIFE AFTER MARRIAGE
(to former India speedster Zaheer Khan)

It’s been great… getting used to the different changes that take place after you get married. We were travelling a lot before the wedding, but now everything has simmered down, we’re trying to be at home… getting used to family life. 

THE IRONY OF MY LIFE

In my most famous film Chak De! India, I had a cricketer boyfriend, and in real life I ended up marrying a cricketer. I never really compared those two things, but I think a lot of people did! It’s ironic more than anything.

SPORTS I WATCH ON TV

I have always been an ardent fan of sports, but it’s not that I will sit in front of my TV and watch anything in particular. But yes, if Roger Federer is playing, I will sit and watch. I am a Federer fan. Sports gives you a lot of joy just watching it. 

FAVOURITE INDIAN CRICKETER

I have been a Rahul Dravid fan. He is one of my favourite Indian cricketers. Of course now I would say Zaheer Khan as well (laughs out loud)… I would not deny that. 

BEING A SABYASACHI BRIDE

I have known Sabyasachi for a while, he was once designing for a movie that I was doing, a J.P. Dutta film which never released, but we shot quite extensively… I am talking about almost eight years back. So from that time onwards, I had decided that if I got married, I would be wearing his clothes. I have been a fan of his since. The experience of being a Sabya bride was great. He actually stuck to giving me what suits me. I didn’t want too much work on the clothes, I wanted real brocade and things like that and he worked on that. 

FAVE CRICKETER-BOLLYWOOD COUPLE

I think Sharmilaji (Tagore) and Tiger Pataudi were a very graceful couple. Together they looked so graceful, fantastic… I’ve seen in the old photographs. 

MY STYLE

Very classy, very simple. I don’t like anything too over the top, I like to keep it minimal. That’s how I have always been and that works for me. I also like sporty style. I am somebody who loves to be in her track pants. And I am a jeans person.
