If you’re down for some monkey business, there’s an apt spot in Kaikhali where you and your gang can ‘hang’. It’s The Drunken Monkey, a resto-pub opened by buddies and neighbours Anish Loharuka and Auggustus Singhal who wanted a place of their own to chill in their own para.
“There aren’t many resto-pubs in this part of town. The basement of O2 VIP hotel was lying unused. So we decided to turn it into the place, where we ourselves would like to go,” said Auggustus. Chances are you’d like it as well, as they have board games, a special room dedicated to PlayStation fanatics and peppy music apart from a well-stocked bar and good food.
The drinks menu has different kinds of alcohol — from beer to cocktails and heady shots. For munch options, choose from bar nibbles and light bites to go with your tipple, or settle down for a full-fledged meal.

The Drunken Monkey seats 85. The interiors, done up in pinewood tone, have cushioned high chairs with tables fitted with buzzers to alert the staff. No need to holler for the waiter. How convenient is that?
If you live for French fries, you will love the Fries Around the World section in the menu. Sample fries from countries such as Peru, Russia and Kenya, and the different sauces and dips that go with them. We loved Patatje Oorlog — fried potato strips (the way they do it in the Netherlands) — served with peanut dip, mayo and chopped onion on top.
The rasta colours, Bob Marley on the wall, a red couch and TV for your fave PS4 games make up the game room, which also doubles as a private dining room.
Penne Vodka: Pasta cooked in a classical French cream sauce with tomatoes and a healthy dash of vodka that makes the dish sweet, sour and boozy.
Tequila Spiked Caramel Corn: Caramel corn and tequila. ’Nuff said. Sweet, crunchy and soaked with tangy tequila, it’s the perfect chakhna.
Funnyman Abish Mathew was there to make us LOL on the day of the opening. The resto-pub plans to host more comedy and music gigs in future.
Tolly star Rituparna Sengupta also dropped by at the opening party.
