The Bengali film industry has a busy time ahead with as many as 25 projects rolling out of SVF across diverse genres — adventure to thriller, comedy to chamber drama. The highlights from a get-together at ITC Sonar.
Prosenjit aka Kakababu is packing his bags for Kenya and South Africa this time. Srijit Mukherji’s next, Kakababur Protyaborton, is based on the Sunil Ganguly story, Jongoler Modhye Ekti Hotel. “Kakababu has already been to the desert and mountain, so this time he’ll be heading towards the jungle,” said Srijit (inset), who has his hands full with May release Uma and the currently-under-production Ek Je Chhilo Raja.

Five pretty women in one film — that’s five-much for Crisscross! Starring Swastika Mukherjee, Mimi Chakraborty, Nusrat Jahan, Priyanka and Sohini Sarkar, the “slice-of-life-drama” will be steered by Birsa Dasgupta (inset). “There are stories on each that run parallel, each ‘crisscrossing’ the path of the other,” said Birsa. Mainak Bhaumik is writing the script. Birsa’s other project is Bibaho Obhijaan, about an NRI couple who are forced to return to their roots for their child.
Abir Chatterjee will turn many shades grey to play Byomkesh, in an original story based on the sleuth scripted and directed by Debaloy Bhattacharya titled Bidaye Byomkesh. Sohini Sarkar stays on as his screen-wife Satyabati.
“Love grows out of sex.” That’s Anjan Dutt talking about the next film he’s going to shoot, Finally Bhalobasha, the tagline of which goes, ‘Hormones Run Faster Than Emotions’. Anjan’s musical Aami Ashbo Phire, starring Swastika Mukherjee and Sauraseni Maitra, releases in April.
