Rugs to dress up your home

It’s more than just a piece of textile to keep your feet warm. It’s good enough to jazz up any dull corner of your house, or to lend your pad your signature touch. That a rug is all that, and more, is what the newly-opened Cocoon Fine Rugs wants to stress.

It’s more than just a piece of textile to keep your feet warm. It’s good enough to jazz up any dull corner of your house, or to lend your pad your signature touch. That a rug is all that, and more, is what the newly-opened Cocoon Fine Rugs wants to stress.

With the walls exhibiting different styles and designs, Cocoon Fine Rugs has come to Calcutta (on Pretoria Street, located beside Gyan Manch) after Mumbai and Bangalore. For proprietor Ayush Choudhary, Calcutta was the “obvious” choice for his third store as “the city has always appreciated things that are beautiful. Also, we have been working with people and homes in the city through our other stores, so this store definitely makes us more accessible.”

“All the rugs are manufactured in the country, and we do everything ourselves. Prepared in small towns and villages, some rugs may take around six months to be hand-knotted,” added the 30-year-old.

The 30-odd collections of rugs on display — all of which have a story to tell — are inspired from modern art, classical designs and even textiles. Cocoon Fine Rugs also customises the rugs according to the client’s needs.

Last Wednesday evening, designer Radhika Singhi and her patisserie chef daughter Sneha hosted a get-together at Cocoon Fine Rugs to mark its launch. Why do they love Cocoon? “I like throws and rugs around my house, but I and my friends were having a hard time finding a dedicated place that gave us space to see and pick up what we wanted,” said Radhika.
