... and the special weave — Khesh (above)
Khesh is the on-trend weave this Puja. This handloom sari is traditional yet trendy, which makes it the go-to drape for Saptami. “Khesh is pretty and light, not too gaudy and just right for morning Puja plans. It’s manageable too,” said Sunandita Ghosh, a third-year student of Jadavpur University, flaunting her sari from Dakshinapan @Rs 850.

Crop top + palazzo
A crop top with palazzos is for the girl who gives equal importance to comfort and style. “Every girl should own a pair of black palazzos. Wear it with a basic tee and a statement necklace for a day look. Or a crop top for a night look. Palazzos are very comfy and best for pandal-hopping!” said Deasi Roy, a student of sociology at Asutosh College, donning the ensemble she put together from BK Market — palazzo @ Rs 600, crop top @Rs 650.Also available at: Emami Market, AC Market, Metro Plaza.

Kurta-pyjama + Jawahar jacket
No Puja look-book is complete without at least one traditional ensemble. The Jawahar jacket, which became popular among GenY last winter, continues to rule GenY’s fashion list. If your jacket comes with a breast pocket, add a bright pocket square or handkerchief for some drama. “The idea is to keep it traditional yet simple. One needs to be comfortable when pandal-hopping, so a heavy decorative kurta is a no-no. A white kurta-pyjama is simple and comfortable. A Jawahar jacket jazzes up the look. For the feet, I chose simple slip-ons, but one could also go for brogues,” said Priyankar Patra, a third-year student of journalism at Asutosh College.
He shopped for his traditional look at Gariahat. The kurta-pyjama set came for Rs 700 at Kimbadanti and the Jawahar jacket from Punjabi House for Rs 800. The shoes are from Hush Puppies @ Rs 2,500.
