Having shot to fame making money-minting Bengali remakes of Tamil-Telugu hits, director Raj Chakraborty promises to offer something “original” in his June 11 release Ley Chakka.

“I am tired of telling people that this film isn’t a remake.... It’s full-on entertainment with para politics, cricket and romance,” said Raj at the Ley Chakka music launch at HHI. Starring Dev and Payel, Ley Chakka highlights north Calcutta’s para culture with a game of gully cricket.

“We shot in real locations and acting opposite Kharaj Mukherjee, Laboni Sarkar and Partha was really challenging. They helped me a lot,” said Dev, who plays a suave south Calcutta boy. “I play Rani, a north Calcutta girl who sports glasses and wears cotton salwar kameez,” said Payel.

Also spotted at the do were June, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Hiran, Kanchan Mullick and Subhashree, directors Sandip Ray, Kaushik Ganguly and Subrata Sen, and producer Shrikant Mohta.
