Small screen hunk Karan Singh Grover is the host of Perfect Couple, a Splitsvilla-meets-Roadies-meets Amazing Race reality format on Channel V. A t2 chat…

What are you doing on a show like Perfect Couple?

There are two kinds of shows that really excite me. One is adventure and the second is romance. Perfect Couple is a perfect blend of the two. For me, nothing gets more interesting than tracing the dynamics of a man-woman relationship and seeing it go through its ups and downs and then come out of it beautifully, eventually. And for me, nothing gets from adrenaline pumping than a show that is all about adventure… about testing one’s physical strength and mental capability. On this show, we will have a set of couples hiking through the country and across the border, while we test the endurance of their love and relationship along the way. There will be a lot of daredevil stunts that they have to perform even as they hold on to their relationships. I think it’s a super concept… something that hasn’t been done before. I rarely get excited about a show, but Perfect Couple is a format that I am really looking forward to.

What has the experience on the show been like so far?

For one, it’s been a beautiful experience. Beautiful, because I have managed to see some very beautiful parts of the country that I wouldn’t otherwise have had the chance of seeing. The roadmap of the show is from Khajuraho to Kathmandu and in between, we have discovered lovely places like Nagarkot and Varanasi.

There was this particular episode in which we made a couple get on to those tiny choppers — they are so small that they move vigorously even if a breeze blows! — and circle the snow-capped Himalayas. That was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Are these pairings made on the show?

No, these are couples who have been in a relationship before they come on the show. There are people who have been seeing each other for six years… there are people who have been seeing each other for six months. There is a couple who were seeing each other for four years, broke up and now, on the show, they are a couple again. What they have been through together on the show has actually worked in bringing them close again. This is actually what Perfect Couple is all about. You may think you have the perfect relationship, but here things may seem very different after we have tested you in terms of your love, trust and compatibility. Along the way, if we are helping a couple discover or re-discover their love for each other and emerge stronger in their relationship, then I don’t think there is anything more that we could want. Mission successful!

Will you be just a host or also a catalyst between the couples?

I am not a catalyst… I don’t play Cupid on the show. I am just hosting it. I tell them what their tasks are, what they need to do and more importantly, what they don’t need to do. They report to me at the end of the day. I am the only source of authority that they have. I am big daddy!

What is a perfect couple in your book?

I have no freaking clue, man! In all my relationships, I have never figured out what the perfect thing to do is. I am hoping that in the company of these couples, by the end of the show, I will have some idea about what perfect couples are all about. Right now, I have no clue!

See, if there are two people really happy with each other and nothing else matters to them, then that for me is a perfect couple. If they are busy with their work and busy with each other, happy in themselves, then it doesn’t get more perfect than that.

Would you be game to be a participant on a show like this?

Well, I am single right now, so I wouldn’t have anyone to go with in the first place! (Karan divorced TV star Shraddha Nigam in 2009.) But if I did, I would go for it because I think it’s a really cool concept. But for now, I am happy just hosting it.

Any memorable incidents from the show?

We were at this place called the Last Resort (in Nepal), which is the third highest point for bungee jumping in the world. I am mortally afraid of heights. To cross over to the mountains, we had to go over a moving bridge, the drop from which was 170-odd metres. These couples, in a bid to prove their love for each other, were willing to jump from that height. But I was terrified to even walk across the bridge at that height.

But didn’t you get over that fear when you were on Khatron Ke Khiladi last season?

Yes, I was on Fear Factor last season and did a couple of height-based stunts. Some of them I did well, some I didn’t. The fear still remains within. Maybe one day, I will get over it.
