MESSImerising

You, the t2 reader, send in your b’day messages (June 24, two days before Lionel Messi lost the Copa final and retired from Argentina colours) for the best footballer ever...

t2 decodes the bow: We were atheists, until we saw you play, God of football!

Nearly three decades ago, a little boy was born, who, in course of time proved to be God.

Happy birthday to the greatest footballer that ever walked on earth!

Happy birthday to the God!

Happy birthday to Lionel Andres Messi.

Happy birthday, love!

From the day I became familiar with football, I’ve been his fan. When he has the ball at his feet, he becomes God. I wonder how his teammates concentrate on the game instead of looking at him in awe. I wish he keeps on breaking records! But most importantly, he is a great human being. Even after winning five Ballon d’Ors, he is so down to earth. Have you ever seen him frustrated, be rude or hurl abuses at his opponents?

He’s my first celebrity love ever.

I’ve loved him since I was six or seven! And his new look?

OMG! It’s unexplainably good! *drool* *blush* (Send a birthday message for Messi... June 24)

Feliz Cumpleanos (happy birthday in Spanish), Messi. You are rightly called the God of football. I had little interest in football, but it’s you who introduced me to a brand new world called football. For me football means Messi. Whether you score or miss, my love and respect for you will remain the same. I am sending you a bouquet of love, hugs and kisses through my prayers.

Tua Ghatak, Salt Lake

They had given up hope on him, but he had full faith in himself and in his love for football, and it is because of his passion and determination that today, he is the hope and inspiration of millions of people. He gives joy to the city of joy.
Here’s to the man who overcame all odds to achieve his dreams, who permanently removed the word ‘impossible’ from his dictionary and who taught us a lesson of never giving up. A very happy birthday and thanks for being Messi.

Happy 29th birthday to the best footballer that ever lived.

Warm wishes to the man who taught me to appreciate football, beyond the fact that it is played with feet and ball. He taught me what dedication, passion, perseverance, patience and loyalty means. He showed the world that being a daddy is also cool. Happy birthday Messi, may the next 29 years bring in more fruits from the seeds of labour you have sown.

Football for me means Barcelona, Argentina and obviously Messi! Right from his dimples to his mesmerising free-kicks make me go crazy. He has broken numerous records already and he is just 29. Happy birthday and please come to India again because the last time you came, I could not see you!

Lionel Messi is the man who made me fall in love with football. He is a pure footballing genius and rest assured when Messi takes the field, all eyes are fixed on him. He is the reason why I can stay awake till 2am or wake up at 4 in the morning.
Thank you for giving me so much joy over the years and hope you will be doing the same for many more years.

Reign like a brave king in the football kingdom. Show your magic to everyone, to every corner of this world, so that we all can shout aloud — “Messi... Messi...!” You are already a legend. Continue to dazzle us with your left foot. Love you, my love!!

Tisya Dasgupta

A diamond was born today. Today’s date should be a red letter day, for every football fan around the world. Rival fans unite on this day to celebrate the day just for you, Leo. Show us how to be victorious, even when the whole world is against you. You are one of a kind.

Siddhant Shastri

You are the king of football. I really love you. You have proved that sports is not just about medals but also passion. Stay well, do well!

Exactly 29 years ago, God sent its greatest invention to our mother earth for making us believe in the word called “art”.

Happy birthday Lionel Messi! The God of football.

Name and fame have destroyed many shining careers, but not Messi’s. If being humble is an art, then Messi is the Picasso of it. Words and adjectives are not enough to describe the brilliance of this little magician. Yes, debates will always exist if Leo is the greatest player of all time. Yes, there will be criticism. Yes, there will be the eternal rivalry between Messi and Ronaldo. But then, football will be so dull without a little drama, both on and off the pitch. While Leo can do the former impeccably, we can take care of indulging in the latter. Let each one of us just thank God that we are living in the era of Lionel Messi. We are able to witness his magic every day. I will conclude by quoting Pep Guardiola, who once said—“Don’t write about him (Messi), don’t try to describe him. Just watch him”. I couldn’t agree more.

Ritika Das

One might say he is from a different world, but he’s very much one of us. A doting father to the caring partner, he is just perfect at whatever he does. He never loses his calm even in the toughest of situations. His killer of a left foot never fails to put a smile on my face, but he is also a perfect team man. He doesn’t play to break records, but when a legend plays, records are bound to break.

Love him till eternity. 29 billion kisses just for him!

Ayushi Ray, Tollygunge

Leo, I love you so very much! Happy 29th birthday to you and loads of love and support. I hope you play and win the next World Cup. I love your beard and that dimple!

Sanjukta

I have been a HUGE fan of yours right from the beginning. I always wait for you to step on the field to show your magic! Your looks, smile, personality and above all the way you play is totally AMAZING! I don’t know what adjectives I should use to describe you. No words are enough. I’m extremely lucky to be alive in the same era as you.

Jessica

Let us all chant ‘Happy Birthday’ to Messi.

Sujit

Birthday greetings to you. Many happy returns of the day. May the Lord almighty bless you with good health, prosperity and success. Hope to see you play and win the next World Cup. Stay blessed and keep us mesmerised with your skill and goals.

The small town of Rosario, Argentina used to be known as the birthplace of Che Guevara. But then, a certain Lionel Messi was born. Born with a growth deficiency disorder, the disease didn’t stop him, or rather couldn’t. La Masia moulded him into the greatest of all time.  Happy 29th birthday to the greatest of all time. To the best dribbler in the world. Happy birthday, Leo!

Aritra Jana

Happy Birthday living legend. On the occasion of your 29th birthday all I want to say is keep evolving as a player and keep winning because you have no idea that you’re going to be a part of major historical moments in the future. I love you not only as a football player but as a genuinely great  person too. Stay healthy and happy. xoxo!

There are no words to describe this legend. To me he’s the best player of this generation. He is not just a spectacular player, but there is nobody like him and no one will be. I am lucky to share the same birth month with this legend. He is really a gift from God. Happy 29th birthday, Leo.

THIS FANBOY WROTE A POEM!

He plays, he conquers, he delights, he confounds;
To defenders he is unplayable, an anomaly — out of bounds.

On the field, he is an artist who makes the ball sing,
Football may have many greats, but he is the reigning king.

A feint, a dribble, a nutmeg; a shot as fierce as a left hook,
He is the master and he knows every single trick in the book.

Be it scoring sublime goals or supplying assist after assist,
His talent is unique and unparalleled; simply impossible to resist.

Always a superstar yet ever the team man,
From the commoner to the Pope, every one is his fan.

Whether in the Blaugrana or donning the sky blue,
His will always be the colour with the brightest hue.

In his own mind, he is like a kid playing with his favourite toy;
But to the millions of us he is our perennial source of joy.

There are no words, no truly fitting laurel
That can conceivably encompass the genius that is Lionel.

At the pinnacle of world football long may he stay,
Here’s wishing Leo Messi a very Happy Birthday!

A very happy 29th birthday, little maestro. Keep scoring, keep winning and most importantly, be as you are.

Happy 29th birthday to the man who I love more than myself, who taught me to love football from the year 2006.

I wish you a happy birthday, a nice life, full of joy, and I desire you continue in your mission of being happy, making happy beings because the way to being happy is to make others happy first. When I saw you on September 2, 2011, I was crying as my dad held my hand tightly at the Salt Lake stadium.

There is a song by Adele, which goes like...

“Never mind, I’ll find someone like you, I wish nothing but the best for you.”

But I’m sure I’ll never find a man, a legend like you!

Feliz Cumpleanos, Messi. I want to describe Messi in three words — extraordinary, exquisite and phenomenal.

Wishing the shining star of the football fratenity a very happy birthday. It’s a treat to watch you play. Keep winning accolades, Leo.

You are my favourite and also my idol. I wish you get more success in your career.

He is an inspiration for many, a hope for the millions. On his 29th birthday, I wish Lionel Messi a very happy and prosperous birthday and I pray to God for his good health and well being. He shall always be remembered in the pages of the golden era of football and in the hearts of his fans forever.

Hail to thee, the magician of football. You have enthralled us with your skills on the pitch that put you miles above the rest. Pure mysticism is the other word to describe you.

Arindam Lodh

Happy 29th birthday to Lionel Messi, the football genius, the man of whom I’ve been a fan of since the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Before that, I never knew the ‘F’ of football and only watched cricket. But now, I know nothing but football and Messi.
I saw him in the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina playing with the ball at his feet and humiliating the opponents and scoring a goal and I was like “WOW”. Since then, I’ve been a crazy ardent fan of his and I’ve only seen him getting better day by day. He’s a great human being too. I wish him all the best for every match he plays in the future. I am proud to be a fan of Messi, the best football player, ever.

One of the finest footballer of this era, with the extraordinary skills and perfect implementation in both club and international football. Lionel Messi is also an inspirational figure as he emerged from a poor family in Argentina, and defeated his physical disorder to achieve all the feats! Keep on making and breaking records like you do every day.

Resham Das

He almost single-handedly took Argentina to three major tournament finals. He does not complain when he misses an opportunity, as he believes it was his inability to score, unlike Ronaldo, who starts blaming his opponents. Ronaldo compliments himself because he has nobody to do that for him. Maradona speaks ill of Messi because he knows people might forget him due to Messi. Leo will always overpower Maradona. So to remind people of the fact that a blot called Maradona existed once upon a time, he goes on making immoral and baseless statements about Messi. People will remember Maradona for his treacherous ‘Hand of God’ but they will remember Leo as the man whose left foot is the most beautiful thing mankind has ever seen.

Souvik Ghosh

Football without Messi is like life without water. That’s enough to describe Messi as the greatest and the best sportsman ever to exist on the field, to make football complete. So no matter what, he will remain the ‘God of football’ for all us fans.
Lastly, I feel extremely lucky to share my birthday with this legend.

Anwesha Sensarma

I worship you way more than Pele and Maradona and you don’t need a World Cup or Copa America to prove your greatness. Just continue with your magic on the field.
