and a family moment with Bhaichung’s twins

Max is Bhaichung Bhutia’s four-year-old friendly pug. “He was a gift from a very special dada, Shyamalda,” says the star footballer. A family favourite, Max loves to play with the two twins at home, Ugen Kalzang and Keisha Dolkar. “Both of them bully him quite a bit but Max really loves them,” smiles Bhaichung.

A typical day for the pug at his Vedic Village home is lolling about or playing. “What he loves doing most is sitting at my feet and sleeping. He loves to play and run around on the lawns, too,” says Bhaichung. The affectionate pug greets a visitor with as much enthusiasm as he does his master, but he does know who the boss is when it comes to mealtime. “Max does not eat on his own so we have to feed him. And he mostly eats from my hand when I am here,” signs off the soccer star as Max cocks his head to one side and seems to say, “What’s for lunch, dude?”.

A cat left her three kittens in our house and I kept them in a basket in the balcony. The mother would come and breastfeed them, but recently she has taken away two and abandoned the weaker one. I have been feeding the kitten using a dropper. She has now started to explore the house and recognises me, too. I know nothing about cats and will be attending college soon. My parents are working and my mum is allergic to pets. Hence, I think it will be best if she could be let outside to fend for herself. However, I’m really attached to her and have even named her. Do kittens also develop an attachment like dogs? As long as she’s with me how do I take care of her?

Yes, kittens also develop an attachment like dogs. Don’t worry, it is not a tough job to keep a kitten as a pet. Give her half a teaspoon of Lactogen (baby food) stirred in an ounce of water five times daily. After each feed, give three drops of Bonnisan. When the kitten is 21 days old, it will be able to drink milk from a plate and after a month, you can give her readymade kitten food available in pet shops. Extra care is needed only for 25 days. After a month, you can keep a sand bed in a corner of the room. Keep a newspaper soaked with urine on the sand bed and then put the kitten on it. Once she gets the smell of urine on the bed, she’ll use it as her toilet. Also, visit the nearest pet clinic once she is a month old. The doctor will keep her healthy through de-worming medicines. In case your parents are against keeping the kitten, then please contact NGOs like Friends of Dog (9831092562), People For Animals (033-24239100), C.S.P.C.A (033-22367738) and Love ’N’ Care for Animals (9433075715). Please don’t abandon her.
