On or off?
Justin Bieber never fails to make news. He arrived at the Microsoft Theatre in LA on Sunday night without Selena Gomez even though the two were spotted hanging out on Friday (below)! He arrived wearing a Nirvana shirt and a pair of stressed jeans. Needless to say, Nirvana fans are outraged by his choice of wardrobe.

Selena didn’t take a backseat. She slipped into a see-through, sparkly bodysuit, and sang about being sick of the same old love… uh, yes that’s her song Same Old Love. So, the question is: On or off? We mean, the couple thingy!
Justin matched Selena’s stunning performance with a medley finale of What Do You Mean?, Where Are U Now and Sorry.... wearing an oversized hoodie. When Sorry (which some say is dedicated to Selena) came on, it rained on stage. Literally!

Smooth operator
The smooth sexuality integral to Marvin Gaye numbers created magic between Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth. It was supposed to be a combo of Like I’m Gonna Lose You and the duo’s recent hit Marvin Gaye but when the All About The Bass singer appeared near the piano after a quick change of wardrobe, it was all about tongues and touches. As the two finished their performance, they went in for what first we thought would be a quick kiss but eventually looked like a make-out session. And yes, Mr Puth’s right hand looked very much at home
you-can-see-where!

Mane attraction
No ponytails. Ariana Grande let her hair down to perform her new song, Focus. She was a vision of sultry and sexy from Holly flicks. And soon after the routine, the 22-year-old won the Favourite Female Artiste Pop/Rock, beating Taylor Swift (who won the Favourite Pop/Rock Album, Song of the Year, and Favourite Adult Contemporary Artiste awards). Where was Tay? Busy preparing for her tour of Australia and New Zealand.

Third time charmed
One Direction played it cool as they took home the Best Pop/Rock Duo or Group third time in a row! Did we mention that Nicki Minaj (winner of Favourite Artiste Rap/Hip hop and Favourite Album Rap/Hip hop) handed them the trophy?! Addressing the crowd, Niall Horan said: “Wow, to say that we have won this award for three years on the bounce is a pretty incredible thing to say and we wouldn’t be able to do it without our fans and all the things they have done for us.” That wasn’t the last we saw of the four boys. They went on to give a perfect rendition of their song Perfect.

Who’s Anaconda is it?

She is 46 but she sure still has it. Jennifer Lopez pulled off double duty as the host of this year’s AMA and also as the opening act. The Booty singer appeared in a skin-tight bodysuit to perform a mix of top hits after a downtempo version of her 1999 chartbuster Waiting For Tonight. And what a mix it was: Anaconda, B**** Better Have My Money, Bad Blood and I Can’t Feel My Face. “As a kid in the Bronx I watched the American Music Awards every year... they became my heroes. So here I am, my dream has come true,” said the AMA veteran who was first nominated for the award 15 years ago. Butt, butt, butt… one person wasn’t impressed — Nicki Minaj. Cameras spotted her looking away when Lopez broke into Anaconda. That didn’t matter to her rapper-boyfriend Meek Mill, who was all smiles, all the time.

PLAY IT IN HINDI!
Coldplay returned to AMA after seven years and what a return it was. They put a psychedelic spin to their new single Adventure Of A Lifetime (from their December release A Head Full of Dreams), complete with swirling graphics, while a group of dancers in gorilla costumes made a circle around frontman Chris Martin. The album will be a special one because it will feature — according to Rolling Stone — guest appearances from Beyonce, Blue Ivy Carter, Noel Gallagher, Tove Lo and Martin’s ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
