It was Aditya Chopra who came up with the title of Rani Mukerji’s comeback film. Rani Mukerji’s Hichki sees the acclaimed actress plays the character of Naina Mathur, who has a nervous system disorder, Tourette syndrome, that forces an individual to make involuntary repetitive movements or sounds. The inspiring movie is a subtle reminder about discrimination that exists in our society. It highlights this through the story of Naina, who faces discrimination from our society that firmly believes she cannot be a teacher because of her disorder. The film releases on February 23.
Director Siddharth P. Malhotra says: “It was quite a task to figure out the perfect title of the movie. It needed to be sensitive, thought provoking, intriguing, and have a direct connect to the theme. It was Adi who nailed it. He took a few days to deliberate on the same and when he told Maneesh (Sharma) and me his suggestion and we were ecstatic! Nothing could have described the film better than Hichki. It’s uncomplicated, it’s a strong metaphor to discrimination and it’s an extremely colloquial and relatable word.”
As part of promotions for the film, Rani will be seen in Sourav Ganguly’s reality TV show Dadagiri.
A source from the channel says: “Rani and Sourav are both legends. This episode will be the most special we have shot. Sourav, or Dada as he is fondly called, will be speaking to Rani on her forthcoming film Hichki. Rani has started a campaign for the film that sees her quiz icons about their real-life hichkis (weaknesses) and she will quiz Sourav on the same. It will be quite interesting to know about Dada’s hichki. We are sure it will be a big revelation.”
