Amazon is set for another merry trip to hell as Prime Video has officially renewed Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens for a third and final season.
“We are ineffably elated to confirm that Good Omens will return for a third season! This calls for a round of hot chocolate and sweet treats!” declared the official handle of the series on X, accompanied by an announcement poster, on Thursday.
Based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel of the same name, Good Omens stars Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale and David Tennant as the demon Crowley. The show has gained a devoted fanbase for its unique blend of humour, irreverence and a narrative that revolves around the extraordinary friendship between celestial beings.
Hinting at a possible storyline for the upcoming season, Gaiman said Good Omens Season 3 will deal once more with the end of the world. “The plans for Armageddon are going wrong. Only Crowley and Aziraphale working together can hope to put it right. And they aren't talking,” the author said.
Good Omens Season 1 stayed close to the apocalyptic storyline of the original novel, while Season 2 was an original sequel that delved into the intriguing backstory of Aziraphale and Crowley. The concluding moments of Season 2 left fans on the edge of their celestial seats. Aziraphale surprised audiences by accepting Gabriel's former position in Heaven, extending an invitation to Crowley to accompany him. Frustrated and grappling with his emotions, Crowley declined the offer, sealing the moment with an unexpected kiss. The duo then parted ways — Crowley speeding off into the unknown, while Aziraphale was tasked with orchestrating a new apocalypse for the Second Coming.
“Good Omens has checked every box for a clever, witty, and funny comedy that not only made it a success on Prime Video, but also made ‘goodness’ watchable and fun thanks to Neil and Terry’s immense creativity,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios.
The final season of Good Omens will begin filming soon in Scotland and premiere on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
