Galchi Jorim Jeongsik or Braised Hairtail Fish and Rice Galchi, or hairtail fish, is a Jeju speciality and is even exported to mainland Korea and Japan.
Jorim is a generic Korean cuisine term referring to dishes made of vegetables, meats, seafood, or tofu in a mixed sauce by simmering for a long time.
Jeong means a complete meal. Sik means to eat or food.
This hairtail fish curry stood out with an orange-red curry colour unlike the other seafood bowls we tried in Jeju. There was plenty of white radish (mooli) with the fish so we had to poke at it with chopsticks to know what’s what! Despite all that red, it wasn’t even close to spicy.
Tipple with tail: Team it with Soju, which is Korean vodka, or a Korean brand of beer called Hite.
Restaurants serving Korean Pork Ribs look like industrial factories with exhaust pipes hanging from the ceiling over the barbecue grill set-up at each table.
