The ‘Coming Soon’ poster is finally down from one of the most-awaited outlets on the second floor of South City Mall and in its place stands a brand new Cafe Mezzuna. And the best part is you don’t have to waste any time getting used to this hangout… it looks and feels just like its older sibling at Forum.
The imposing black lights hanging from the ceiling, light wooden furniture, stark white walls, olive upholstery, shelves housing books and coffee mugs… it’s the same decor in a slightly smaller space, with 90 covers.
“The people of Calcutta have responded very well to Mezzuna, so we are spreading our wings and giving it another destination for people living closer to South City. Like we did with Mainland China and Oh! Calcutta, this is a geographic expansion,” says Anjan Chatterjee, Speciality Ltd chief, who promises a more extended menu at Mezzuna 2.
Pssst: He also hints at the possibility of a Mezzuna 3 in Salt Lake, “though nothing is fixed yet”.

You just have to head towards the cute little smoking room, not necessarily to smoke but to read the cool one-liners splashed on the door. Sample: ‘Some things are better rich. Coffee, chocolate and men”!! #SoTrue
Just as you enter, your eyes are drawn to this white wall with empty photoframes in different shapes and sizes. The theme is extended to another wall inside, but this time the frames hold pictures of some iconic characters .
The liquor licence is in the pipeline, so you have to wait before you can order those beer towers or the pitchers full of LIIT or Sangria. Till then, sip on mocktails like:

FIVE TEAM T2 MEMBERS TELL US WHY THEY LOVE CAFE MEZZUNA
What I love about Mezzuna is the ambience. The vibe is so chilled yet at the same time fine-dining-ish. Both drinks and food are equally good. The mustard on the table and the Two Berry Baked Philadelphia Cheesecake are to die for. It’s my most favourite restaurant in the city and I recommend it to all my friends when they visit from out of town.
Mezzuna has the best Lamb Chops with couscous... I mostly keep going back for that dish. The Cheesecake is also excellent. Two outlets mean less crowd in each.
I don’t have a sweet tooth as such, but at Mezzuna I usually order dessert before the main course! I love their Pannacotta.
I love their Lamb Chops and I always have that. Pannacotta in desserts is yuuuuuummm! And South City badly needed a place like this!
So much alcohol at such reasonable cost... that is the best! And also the Lamb Chops.
THE MENU AT CAFE MEZZUNA SOUTH CITY IS LARGELY THE SAME AS THE FORUM ONE, WITH A FEW ADDITIONS HERE AND THERE. HERE’S WHAT T2 PICKED:
