Four wheels move the body. Two wheels move the soul. Drop in at OSL Auto at the FMC Fortuna Building (234/3A AJC Bose Road, Calcutta 20) any time between now and end-January and feel the truth of this biker’s adage. On display is the Suzuki Hayabusa GSX1300RZ — yes, the 1299cc, 4-stroke, 4-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC superbike with a 21.0 l fuel tank. Get a good look, but don’t even think of riding it as this bike is so powerful it is not even allowed on Indian roads.
Known to most as the vroom-machine that Bollywood hunk John Abraham wowed us with in Dhoom, Aditya Chopra’s take on biker-heist movies, the Hayabusa is an auto marvel. The word hayabusa is a direct translation in Japanese for the Peregrine Falcon, the bird capable of achieving speeds over 200mph.
When introduced in 1999, the Hayabusa overtook the Honda CBR1100XX Super Blackbird as the fastest production motorcycle, capable of reaching a maximum speed of 300kmph (186mph).
The engine is famed for its awesome acceleration the instant you twist the throttle. Its secret? Nothing short of Suzuki’s most sophisticated technology, including digital electronic fuel injection for crisp, instantaneous throttle response and a unique version of Suzuki Ram Air DirectTM (SRAD) induction.
The result is a boost in horsepower, torque, economy and acceleration. The aluminum-alloy twin-spar frame offers formidable rigidity, while the finely-tuned suspension rear shock ensures a smooth-as-silk ride.
The 2008 edition is available in two colours: Candy Sonoma Red (YHL) and Pearl Nebular Black (YAY). The red one is on display at OSL Auto.
If you could buy this baby, it would set you back by a neat Rs 13 lakh approximately. No wonder John Abraham is rumoured to be the only man in the country who has one!
