Ace Bollywood composer Amit Trivedi and his band of amazingly skilled musicians floored listeners at a packed Nazrul Mancha for Royal Challenge Sports Drink Bold League Amit Trivedi Live in Concert, partnered by The Telegraph, on March 18. They played a set that lasted more than two hours. Curated meticulously, the set list began with numbers like Allah hoo, Pashmina and Zinda hoon yaar.
Guitarist Rhythm Shaw played a melodious and uplifting intro solo to Shaam bhi koi as the crowd burst into applause. Fans clapped and sang along as Amit Trivedi pointed out that the show is divided into two parts — to sing and dance along! The show then changed gears.
As the tempo picked up pace, the band went on to play Udta Punjab and Pareshaan as electronic elements like synths started making their way into the mix.
Amit introduced Meghna Mishra, 16, as one the most amazing singers that he has encountered. “What she has achieved at such an early age is simply phenomenal,” he said as Meghna wowed the audience with her powerful vocals, belting out rocking versions of Nachdi phira and Main kaun hoon.
The finale of the evening was Emotional atyachar, and on cue the crowd gathered near the stage and jumped and jived around. Once the song got over, the stage lights went off and the crowd started screaming for an encore.
Everyone waited a while, assuming that they could call it a night, when drummer Jai Row Kavi’s stick count marked a final reprise of the song. Amit and his singers came rushing to the front of the stage, much to the excitement of the audience.
“It’s great to see you all pass with flying colours when it comes to singing along in tune. That’s what makes Calcutta so special. Thank you for coming out and being a part of this evening and sharing this musical experience,” said Amit, as the evening came to a close.
WHAT THEY LOVED

It’s just brilliant to hear and watch Amit Trivedi live. From Dev D to Raid, the music is so varied, yet entertaining. Divya Kumar and Yashita Sharma are the perfect vocal pillars for Amit Trivedi — Shubhalakshmi Sen

Amit Trivedi brought a host of amazing compositions and presented them in a refreshing style with a bunch of young and talented musicians. What a find Meghna Mishra has been — Soumya Paul, banker
