Besides Barandaye roddur, the band regaled with Prano sokhire, Rupnagar and one of Surojit’s favourites, Tumi Radhe koi koi. New year means new resolutions. “As a band, we want to continue with our music, rehearse and practice,” smiled Surojit.

Mid-life crisis of a middle-class couple mixed with a dose of humour and a message kept around 250 viewers glued to Is Anybody Listening? presented by Hindusthan Club, in association with t2 on April 12. The play, staged at the Sarat Bose Road address, was a combined effort of Spandan, Theatrecian and Inspirago Infinity, and was directed by Renu Roy of Spandan.

An adaptation of Neil Simon’s The Prisoner of Second Avenue, Is Anybody Listening? tells the story of Rohan (Keshav Roy) and Megha (Baisali Chatterjee Dutt), a couple living on Southern Avenue. Life takes a turn when their upscale flat gets burgled and Rohan loses his job. Megha manages to land a job but Rohan goes into depression and ends up taking recourse in therapy. They need help, but ‘is anybody listening?’

The Indianised plot and the urban picture that the play paints is easily relatable — honking cars, noisy neighbours, a malfunctioning garbage-disposal system, water scarcity, unemployment... Keshav and Baisali along with Nivedita Bhattacharya, Surjya Kar and Charu Gupta make this one-hour-40-minute play an amusing satire.

The play had interesting breaks between scenes — radio news bulletin performed by Ashoke Viswanathan, with witty headlines that had the audience in splits.
