Television couple Debina Bonnerjee and Gurmeet Choudhary were in Calcutta recently to promote Nach Baliye 6 (STAR Plus). The two soaked in the sights and sounds of Debina’s hometown (she is a Shyambazar girl) and chit-chatted with t2...

Fun being back in Calcutta?

Gurmeet: This is my fifth or sixth visit to Calcutta. Calcutta is traditional, yet people party at night.... At home, we eat only Bengali food. I understand Bengali very well.

Debina: He loves whatever I cook. It can be as simple as boiled potatoes with steamed rice. I cook palong shaak, lau shaak, chhechki and dal. He can eat fish with more precision than a Bengali!

One thing you love/ hate about each other?

Debina: I love Guru’s simplicity. I hate that he doesn’t know how to say ‘no’.

Gurmeet: Debbie’s ability to work hard. But there is one thing that is quite embarrassing — she can’t recall faces!

What makes the Gurmeet-Debina relationship tick?

Gurmeet: We have been together for eight years. We haven’t changed at all. Marriage has made us more responsible.

Debina: Some people who live in, feel that there is no need to get married. But I say that one should settle down. You have to make compromises, but there should be no ego between the two. I feel there shouldn’t be any conscious effort to change each other.

What are the things you do together every day?

Debina: We work out together. However busy we are, we have made it a point to have dinner together every day.

Debina, aren’t you having problems matching steps with Gurmeet on Nach Baliye?

Debina: Dancing in reality shows is a completely different ball game. Judges and the audiences have huge expectations from us. I have danced in school. I have a sense of beat. I can’t let Gurmeet down.

Gurmeet, your next step must be films? And Debina, do you want to stick to television?

Gurmeet: Yes, definitely but after Nach Baliye. Debina: I have Chidiya Ghar (on Sab TV) and Nach Baliye now. I want to do a Bengali film if Dev stars in it!
