Early this month (August 9) Ekta Kapoor threw a party at Krishna Bungalow to celebrate her birthday (which was two months back!) and also to encourage the Rock On!! team. Why so? Well, Rock On!! stars her blue-eyed girl Prachi Desai and the film’s director, Gattu aka Abhishek Kapoor, is her cousin.

Ekta Kapoor, who is known to make fashionably late entries, arrived with the hands of the clock meeting at the hour. Having lost oodles of weight she was dressed stylishly in a black top and matching skirt and was the talk of the party.

Rock On!! was the toast of the evening, courtesy Ekta who urged party-revellers to sing the film’s songs with her. She also constantly called out to her deputy, Tanushree Das Gupta, to grace the dance floor. Vodka, tequila, whisky and soft-drinks were downed by the gallon. Ekta made sure nobody had a parched throat. She also stayed on the dance floor for most of the night, refusing to part ways with Naman Shaw and Prachi.

Prachi Desai looked like a million bucks in a black sleeveless top. Prachi was heard telling everyone to watch Rock On!! for her sake, because she had worked incredibly hard on the film and currently her only wish was for the film to succeed.

Surprisingly, the party wasn’t a star-studded affair. Tusshar Kapoor and Manish Malhotra, who sauntered aimlessly across the dance floor, were the only Bollywood representatives.

The usual Balaji bandwagon — Aamir, Sanjeeda, Saakshi Tanwar, Mouni Roy, Reshmi Ghosh, Suvarna Jha, Manoj Bohra, Teejay Sidhu, Urvashi Dholakia, Anita Hasnandani, Eijaz Khan and Panchi Bora —were some of the big small-screen stars of the night. Among others Yash Tonk was seen with wife Gouri in his trademark hat. Balaji loyalist Shabbir was seen discussing fitness mantra with a friend saying that he had joined a 24-hour gym and “works out when the entire city is asleep”.

Black seemed to be the colour of the night as most celebs flaunted their dark side in cocktail dresses and short skirts.

Chetan Hansraj came wearing a sleeveless T-shirt and looked like he walked in straight from the gym.

Rakshanda Khan insisted that “Balaji is always home-ground” despite the fact that she has started her own company.

Conspicuous by their absence were Hiten and Gauri Tejwani; Ram and Gautami Kapoor. Rohit Roy came with Manasi and left early while his brother, Balaji’s highest paid actor Ronit Roy was nowhere to be seen.

The food was a widespread Indian affair, while one counter served stir-fried vegetables and meats. Aamir and Sanjeeda spent a lot of time at the desserts counter.
