I am pulling off a Koffee coup of sorts”, Karan Johar announced on Sunday’s episode of Koffee with Karan, as Mira — better known as Mrs. Shahid Kapoor — made her first appearance with her husband on national television. t2 brings you some highlights.

PAST AND PRESENT

Karan Johar: For the first time, Shahid has come on this show with someone he’s spending his life with. He was here with all his alleged girlfriends — Priyanka, Kareena, Sonakshi — and finally, he’s here with you, Mira. 
Shahid Kapoor: I always save the best for the last. 
Karan: So you are fourth time lucky?
Shahid: I guess… if that’s your count!
Karan: Were any of your exes invited to your wedding?
Shahid: Were they? I don’t remember… I know that none of them came! I think I did invite some of them, but I wouldn’t like to take names. 

I CRAVED MARRIAGE…  I WAS VERY LONELY

Shahid: I had been single for four years and I was looking for someone I could spend my life with… but I couldn’t find that person in the people I had around me at that time. 
Karan: Because you had dated most of them!
Shahid: No, I didn’t date all of them! It was important for me to settle down and have a family because my parents (Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azeem) had separated when I was very young. I craved it… I was very lonely when I would go back home. So when this conversation about meeting someone came up, I was like, ‘Why not?’ But when I was told she’s 21 years old, I was like, ‘Are you insane?!’
Mira Kapoor: My feelings, exactly! He’s the same age as my elder sister… and I call her Didi! (Makes a face)
Shahid: The first thing I asked her was, ‘Why do you want to marry someone who is so much older than you?’ And her answer was, ‘Why would you want to marry someone so much younger than you? That’s much worse!’
[The topic of age difference popped up quite a bit during the episode with Shahid, 35, admitting he was “insecure” about Mira, 22, crushing on “random young boys”]. 

WHAT IS LOVE?

Karan: Was there ever a point when you felt you had fallen in love with her?
Shahid: Ya, that was right after she got pregnant. It was then that we got to spend a lot of time with each other. 
Mira: Pregnancy and having a baby makes ‘you’ and ‘I’ ‘we’. Especially in an arranged marriage, it just brings the two people close in a very special way. 
Shahid: I am a big supporter of the arranged marriage format because you come in with no expectations. So when you hit it off, each day becomes better than the previous one. You gradually fall in love unlike a romantic relationship where you always feel that the peak of love happens in the beginning…. 

MIRA IS EVERYTHING NORMAL 

Shahid: I think we are very secure… not secure to the point of boredom. But I think that we are both different ages really works for us. I am really settled in this marriage now. 
Karan: Is Mira your version of normal?
Shahid: Absolutely! She’s everything normal that I was searching for. 
Karan: So are you saying the girls you dated weren’t normal?
Shahid: No! Neither am I, neither are you… you definitely don’t qualify as normal. 

In a section called ‘Pillowtalk’, Shahid and Mira had to reveal secrets about each other, but without looking at each other… with a cushion held between them!

Mira: He burps a lot!
Is Shahid a loud snorer, a soft snorer or not a snorer?
Mira: He’s not a snorer, except on days when he’s very tired… then he’s a soft snorer.
Shahid: We’ve both recorded each of us snoring because none of us would 
believe that we snore!

Shahid: She’s a sleep… blanketer! She takes away the rug at night and here I am lying naked!
Karan: You guys sleep naked?!
Shahid: Sometimes. Don’t you? I am sure you sleep with just your shoes on!
