Prosenjit and director Ravi Kinagi go back a long way. Their collaboration started with the film, Annadata, in early 2000. A few years later, they worked on Agni Pariksha. Now, the Tolly star and the director have come together for a comedy film, produced by Greentouch Entertainment and Jaaz Multimedia.

This time, though, Prosenjit is not acting; he is the creative director. An Indo-Bangladesh joint venture, the film stars Jisshu Sengupta, Soham, Tonushree Chakraborty, along with Bangladeshi actors Bidya Sinha Saha Mim, Peya Bipasha, Arifin Shuvo and Roshan.

The reason for casting Jisshu and Soham is because “both have a good sense of humour and are very spontaneous”, said Kinagi, who has given box-office hits like 100% Love and Awara.

“This film will have the feel of old Bengali comedy classics with great actors. A sense of Bangaliana will prevail and it’ll be an out-and-out comedy. Like the classics, there’ll be scope for the actors to show their acting skills,” said Prosenjit, who will be a creative director for the film. Why? “See, I really enjoy this whole process... from conceiving a film to executing it. I like to really get involved. Ravi is an excellent maker and understands the pulse of the audience so well,” said Prosenjit.

Kinagi shared fond memories of working with Prosenjit. “A major chunk of the shoot for Annadata happened in Bhubaneswar. We had created a huge set and it almost felt like a picnic. And when Bumbada is there, he is involved with all the departments. He helps out in every aspect. On the sets of Agni Pariksha, he was more like a friend than an artiste. We have this comfort zone, we understand each other very well,” he added.

DATELINE: Dev launched the Bengali New Year calendar by Edit FX Studios at his South City office recently. The theme of the calendar is evergreen Bengali film songs. “Our aim was to popularise Bengali film music. Keeping that in mind, the calendar honours all-time classics, which were chosen by musicians like Anupam Roy and Anindya Chattopadhyay,” said Anurag Chirimar, co-director at Edit FX Studios. “We have gifted these calendars to members of the Bengali film industry,” said co-director Harcharan Singh. “I wish them all the best,” said Chaamp star Dev.
