Kareena Kapoor is high on a power-packed and passionate performance in Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met. So, it’s time for some Bebospeak...

My birthday: September 21. I am a Virgo.

My best friend: Is my mom (former actress Babita). I can discuss any problem with her.

One thing that my mom told me which has stayed with me: “You are a born star. The moment you came into the world I knew you would be one.”

Solitude is: Welcome, sometimes. I can be with myself for hours.

A change that I have noticed in myself: Earlier, I was very vulnerable and had several inhibitions. In the early days of my career, while doing the San sana na song under the waterfall in Asoka, I was so conscious of my bare shoulders that I would wrap myself in a bathrobe in-between shots. Now I believe it is very essential for an actress to lose some of her inhibitions.

I enjoy: Watching films on DVD and chatting with friends.

My take on actors and narcissism: I am not narcissistic. If anything, I am quite interested in other people.

I am grateful to: My sister Karisma. She struggled a lot to become a star, but thanks to her, my entry into films was relatively easy.

My computer: Is a pal. I love playing games on my laptop.

My favourite place to shop for clothes: Bangkok.

I am sentimental about: My first film Refugee. Director J.P. Dutta treated me with kid gloves. I can never refuse a film with J.P. Dutta.

I am very keen on visiting: Japan and China. I have heard a lot about these places from my dad (actor Randhir Kapoor). I want to find out how different the Chinese food in China is from the one that we pass off as Chinese food in India. I love travelling. I love snow-capped mountains.

My favourite meal: Goan fish curry and rice. I’m not calorie conscious but I stay slim.

My fashion inspiration: My mom, Babita. I love the way she dressed in her films in the ’60s and early ’70s, like Farz and Kab Kyon Aur Kahan. Those go-go earrings, short and tight churidar kurtas were terrific. I also liked her hairstyle with smartly cropped hair framing her face on one side.

I value the opinion of: My mom and sister the most. Even when Karisma is in Delhi, I talk to her at least 20 times in a day on the mobile and keep her updated on what’s happening in my life.

A common misconception about me: I am mistaken for a Spanish girl when I travel abroad. But when I inform them that I am an Indian, they go into raptures and say: “You must be so proud to be an Indian.” I tell them: “Yes, I am.”

Mumbai is: Home to me. I miss it if I am away from the city even for a day. There is so much life in Mumbai.
