What: Taste of Yauatcha (ToY) menu
Where: Yauatcha, fifth floor, Quest mall
When: Monday to Friday, noon to 7pm
Pocket pinch: Rs 888-plus for vegetarian and Rs 988-plus for non-vegetarian per person

The Dim Sum platter
Want just dim sum? Go for fried or steamed, available in veg and non-veg options. We loved the colourful non-veg steamed dim sum basket consisting of Chicken and Prawn Shui Mai, Har Gau, Chicken and Coriander Dumpling, and Prawn and Chive Dumpling. Available all day, the veg basket is priced at Rs 888-plus and the non-veg at Rs 988-plus.

A five-course meal at Yauatcha consisting of a soup, salad, dim sums, stir-fry with rice or noodle and desserts won’t burn a hole in your pocket. Why? Because the Taste of Yauatcha (ToY) menu is really a steal.

“The main reason for this set menu is to offer our guests more variety. We’ve had set menus like this in the past but now there’s a lot more variety, especially for the price,” said Sanjay Banerjee, assistant general manager, Yauatcha Calcutta.

You can select two types of dim sums from three choices. We loved one of the newer members on the menu, the Truffle and English Carrot Dumpling (part of the veg meal). Who knew carrot could be so delicious? Of course, the truffle helps.
Mixed Salad with Lotus Root: Served in both non-veg and veg meals, the salad is fresh and full of crunch, with lotus root and pomegranate as the heroes.
Asian Greens Soup with Tofu: If you’ve got a sore throat, the soup with tofu is just right — not too spicy yet wholesome. The non-veg meal option is Hot and Sour Soup with Shredded Chicken.
Steamed Indian Sea Bass in Spicy Black Bean Sauce with Chicken Fried Rice with XO Sauce: Fillets of sea bass sit on a tangy-spicy fermented black bean sauce. The Fried Rice is tossed in XO sauce, made with Parma ham, dried shrimp and oil.
Religieuse: The wonder of chocolate! Choux pastry filled with a dense chocolate cream and served with more chocolate and hazelnut ice cream. The perfect end to the meal.
Wok Fried Vegetarian Chicken in Spicy Sauce and Toban Chili Fried Rice: A revelation! Made with soyabean and wheat gluten, the “vegetarian chicken” not only looks like chicken but tastes as good. It is tossed in sauce made with dark and light soya. The jasmine rice is cooked with chilli oil, snow peas, sweet corn and cherry tomatoes.
