Nifty set for an overhaul

Nifty 50 - the benchmark index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) - will witness key changes in its composition from September 29.

Mumbai, Aug. 28: Nifty 50 - the benchmark index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) - will witness key changes in its composition from September 29.

ACC, Bank of Baroda and Tata Power and Tata Motors DVR will move out of the index. These entities will be replaced by Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and UPL Ltd.

The changes in the Nifty 50 were announced today by India Index Services and Products Ltd (IISL), an arm of the NSE, as part of its periodic review.

Besides the Nifty 50, IISL has decided to replace the stocks of other indices, including Nifty Next 50, Nifty 500, Nifty 100, Nifty Midcap 150, Nifty Smallcap 250, Nifty Midcap 50, Nifty 200 and Nifty Smallcap 50.

Besides, changes have been made in sectoral indices such as metal, IT, private bank, PSU bank, realty, commodities, infrastructure and services.

"These changes shall become effective from September 29, 2017 (close of September 28, 2017)," IISL said in a notice.

Five companies - ACC, Avenue Supermarts, MRF, Bank of Baroda and Tata Power Company - will be included in Nifty Next 50 index, while Bajaj Finance, Divi's Laboratories, United Breweries, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and UPL will move out of the index.

Avenue Supermarts and MRF will be included in the Nifty 100 index, replacing Divi;s Laboratories and United Breweries.

BSE Ltd, India Tourism Development Corporation, National Fertilisers, United Bank of India, Future Lifestyle Fashions and Indiabulls Ventures are among the 25 companies to be included in the Nifty 500 index.

In their places, Amtek Auto, Reliance Capital, Reliance Industrial Infrastructure, Relaxo Footwears, Punj Lloyd and Ruchi Soya Industries will move out of the index.

As many as 10 companies such as Reliance Capital will be excluded from Nifty Midcap 150. The index will include United Breweries and nine others from September 29.

The NSE benchmark Nifty today extended its gains by another 55.75 points to finish above the key 9900-level. The index opened higher at 9907.15 and moved in a range of 9925.75 and 9882 before ending at 9912.80, a rise of 55.75 points, or 0.57 per cent from its previous close. A total of 10,925.89 lakh shares changed hands in 9,540,350 trades.
