Calcutta, Oct. 28: Automobile major Mahindra plans to develop a full portfolio of electric vehicles. With the launch of the e2oPlus here today, the auto major now has a portfolio comprising the two-door e2o, the four-door e2oPlus, the sedan eVerito and the mini van eSupro.
"With the e2oPlus, we have plugged the entry-level space in our portfolio. We will now develop and adopt models in other segments, including a bigger 80-kilowatt powertrain," said Mahesh Babu, CEO (designate) of Mahindra Electric, which is a part of the $17.8-million Mahindra group.
Mahindra had forayed into the electric vehicle segment in 2010 after it bought Reva Electric Company from Bangalore-based Maini Group. It has introduced the eVerito, the e-Supro and the e2oPlus models this year.
"There are 7,000 electric vehicles on Indian roads, including the Reva. The e2o developed by us has sold 2,500 units till now," said Babu.
According to the company, there is a healthy ecosystem for electric vehicles at present.
