Dadlani: Surprise exit

Mumbai, June 16: Sandeep Dadlani, Infosys's president and head of Americas, has resigned.

Following his resignation, Infosys announced the appointment of Karmesh Vaswani as global head - retail, CPG & logistics and Nitesh Banga as the global head of manufacturing, thus splitting the post held by Dadlani.

Dadlani, who had joined Infosys in 2001, was part of Infosys's retail industry vertical in 2003 when it was worth $70 million and since then has helped it to grow. He had more than 18 years of experience in operations, consulting, business development and product management.

Apart from being the president and head of Americas for Infosys, he was the global head of the manufacturing, retail, CPG (consumer packaged goods) and logistics units at the Bangalore-based company.

His exit is being seen as a setback for Infosys chief executive Vishal Sikka as the latter had given Dadlani the additional responsibility of generating more revenue from new software businesses such as artificial intelligence.

He was also the chairman of EdgeVerve, an Infosys subsidiary, focused on co-creating innovative cloud-based products and platforms with its clients.

Dadlani announced his exit through the professional networking site LinkedIn. "I will always cherish my 16+ years at Infosys, working and learning with some of the best leaders, mentors, colleagues, clients, partners and teams in the industry. I am extremely optimistic of Infosys' continued success and its strong leadership team. I have decided to pursue my personal interests elsewhere. Next up: An out-of-the world assignment! Stay tuned,'' he said.

"Sandeep has played a key role in the success of Infosys during his career and in our transformation journey these past three years. We wish him the best in the journey ahead," Sikka said.

"I congratulate Karmesh and Nitesh on their appointments as the global leaders for two of our key strategic industry segments. I have worked closely with them over the last three years and have tremendous faith in their passion for client success and their ability to help clients see and achieve their digital aspirations. I am confident that our RCL & manufacturing businesses will thrive under their leadership," Sikka said.

An Infosys statement said both Vaswani and Banga were career Infoscions who have held strategic portfolios across the organisation for nearly a decade.

Infosys also announced the appointment of former Wipro executive Inderpreet Sawhney as its group general counsel.

The appointment is effective July 3, 2017, Infosys said in a statement.

Prior to Wipro, Sawhney has served as managing partner of a mid-sized law firm in Silicon Valley and worked with ITC as the in-house counsel. She replaces Gopi Krishnan Radhakrishnan - the acting general counsel of Infosys - who will be leaving the company later this month.
