Calcutta: Honda Cars India Ltd is eyeing triple-digit growth for its new CR-V to be launched in the second half of 2018-19.
"We are expecting significant growth from the new CR-V which will for the first time have both petrol and diesel models," Rajesh Goel, senior vice-president & director (marketing and sales) of HCIL, said at the launch of the Honda Amaze in the city on Monday.
Honda sold only 330 units of the CR-V in 2017, priced at Rs 22 lakh onwards.
"We did not have a diesel powertrain for CR-V which hampered its sales. But now with the new CR-V and the options of both petrol and diesel, we are confident of selling the CR-V in large numbers in a segment which is showing a lot of growth," said Goel.
Honda sold 50,000 units of the compact SUV, the five-seater W-RV, in 2017. The seven-seater B-RV, however, has not gone down well with customers, selling only 12,000 units last year.
"We are still selling the B-RV because we think it gives a unique proposition of seven seats on three rows, something that the Indian customer appreciates," Goel said.
Honda is also due to launch its sedan Civic in the second half of this financial year. The car was pulled out in 2013.
Honda launched the second-generation Amaze in Calcutta on Monday at an introductory price of Rs 5,59,900-Rs 8,99,900 (ex-showroom).
