Dibrugarh, May 7 (PTI): Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer’s (BCPL) gas cracker project at Assam’s Lepetkata in Dibrugarh district is expected to be completed by 2013, a senior official said today.
Site development works, including a boundary wall, construction of roads, drainage and piling jobs are almost complete, while setting up of equipment and vessels of the grassroots petrochemical plant are in progress, BCPL chairman and managing director B.C. Tripathi said.
The overall progress of the project at Lepetkata, Duliajan and Lakwa sites as of now is 37.7 per cent, he said.
Progress has been disrupted by prolonged and heavy rain, labour problems and low performance of contractors, but Tripathi assured that sustained efforts were being made to arrest any delay in the project.
Tripathi, who is also chairman and managing director of GAIL, said: “Things are beginning to look up and the project is expected to be completed by 2013.”
Purchase orders and contracts of over Rs 7,065.68 crore, including critical items, have already been placed till April 15, while the placement of remaining orders and contracts were being expedited.
