Patna: Women will take over Phulwari Sharif railway station in Patna on Thursday, International Women's Day.
The Danapur division of East Central Railway has chosen to pay tribute to women power by deputing close to 100 women at the railway station. On usual days, there are about 50 personnel, including Government Railway Police, at the station on the outskirts of Patna.
Ranjan Prakash Thakur, the Danapur divisional railway manager, told The Telegraph: "All the railway staff at Phulwari Sharif railway station would be women, including the loco pilot who operates the train, on March 8. This is being done to promote women empowerment and send the message that women are not inferior to anyone."
Women will check signals, perform administrative work, check tickets, man the reservation counter and maintain security at the station for the day.
This would be the first time in East Central Railway's history that every post at a railway station would be taken over by women personnel.
The Danapur railway administration is busy making sure International Women's Day goes off without a hitch at the station.
Thakur, who would be at the station on Thursday, said: "We will try to hand over as much work as possible to the women staff. We will prove that women of Bihar can do anything. We have seen women work in Mumbai but over here, we want to focus on the Bihar's women."
