Patna, May 28: Deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav today said he feared his children would also feel the heat of allegations levelled at his father Lalu Prasad by enemies because of the RJD chief's "unwavering commitment" to speak for the poor.
Lalu's family has been under severe criticism and attack from BJP leaders in general and Sushil Kumar Modi in particular. Tejashwi's eldest sister and her husband Shailesh Kumar have also been summoned by the income-tax authorities.
This is the first time since the I-T notices that Tejashwi has spoken out on the allegations against his family.
"My father and mother have gone through the pain and the way news are coming out I am sure that my next generation will also go through these circumstances," Tejashwi said at Gardanibagh after meeting party MLA Saroj Yadav who was on hunger strike.
Lalu has already bequeathed his political legacy on his sons Tejashwi and Tej Pratap Yadav.
"No one questions over the allegation levelled against Sushil Modi; the media only targets one family that is Laluji's," Tejashwi said. "I have seen these things since childhood. I have gone through these situations when we were very young. And now when we have grown up, we are seeing the same things again."
Lalu, on several occasions, has said that when the CBI had raided his wife Rabri Devi's house in Gopalganj and the official residence of the chief minister in 1998, his children were young and had no idea about the raids but today they have grown up and understand things very clearly.
"I do not understand why inquiry and investigation only takes place against my father who has always fought for the rights of downtrodden," Tejashwi said. "Why is only my family targeted? It is injustice to us. We have already won in the Supreme Court in the DA (disproportionate assets) case; it shows that out of political vendetta, a conspiracy has been made against our family."
Asked about the I-T notice to his sister, Tejashwi chose to attack Sushil Modi.
"In a very short span of time, Sushil Modi and his family members have made thousands of crores of black money," the deputy chief minister alleged, asking why the BJP leader has not said anything about the alleged shell companies owned by his brother R.K. Modi.
Sushil Modi has earlier said he has nothing to do with his family members' businesses.
