Patna, Aug. 7: Lions Club Patna Femina today hosted its 18th installation programme at hotel Maurya.

Twelve new members were inducted into the club at the event. Now the strength of the club has gone up to 45.

The district governor of Lions Club, Nanda Garg, said: “I am very happy to welcome the new members. We hope that they will work to help the needy. We will carry on with our motto to reach out to people who need us.”

Asked what criteria the club adopted while choosing its new members, Nanda said: “Whenever a new member has to be taken we look for two things: the person should have the attitude to serve the society, and he/she should be financially capable to support the projects. The membership of the club, however, is not a paid one. The urge to serve the society is of primary importance.”

Elections were also conducted for the posts of the president, secretary and treasurer. While Rita Kumar was elected the new president, Mala Jha and Madhuchanda Ganguli were chosen as secretary and treasurer of the club.

Rita said: “I am privileged to be the new president of the club. It is a great honour for me and a huge responsibility as well.”

Asked what she would like to do in the course of her tenure, Rita said: “Apart from the old projects, I will introduce new ones as well, like plantation of trees, camps for donation of artificial limbs, eyes and blood and many others.”

The club also adopted non-government organisation Nai Dharti that works for children of rag pickers.
