Police custody torture victim Mukesh Kumar on Sunday said he had suffered injuries in his private parts, leading to intestinal rupture.

Almost a month after he was allegedly subjected to third degree, the resident of Toye village in Sheikhpura returned to his native town from Delhi on Sunday morning. He was shifted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, after the alleged police torture on January 24.

His maternal uncle Dheeraj said Mukesh had been admitted to the Sadar hospital in Sheikhpura.

“Sheikhpura superintendent of police (SP) Babu Ram and members of a special police team inflicted third-degree torture on me. The SP started beating me up at his residence without any provocation. He wanted to know about the liquor trade, which I had nothing to do with,” Mukesh told reporters at the Sadar hospital on Sunday.

He said he was picked up by two policemen in plain clothes from Dhakania on the January 24 night and brought to Barbigha police station. After interrogation for about 15-20 minutes, he was taken to the SP’s official residence in an SUV and tortured in a room till he fell unconscious.

He said his private parts suffered severe injuries during the torture, leading to his intestinal rupture. “When I complained of severe pain, I was admitted to a private clinic at Sheikhpura. As my condition was serious, the cops took me to the Sadar hospital in Sheikhpura, from where I was shifted to the Patna Medical College and Hospital the next day,” he said.

The doctors who examined Mukesh on Sunday morning, described his condition as stable. Sheikhpura civil surgeon Govind Prasad Tambakuwala said Mukesh would undergo a surgery at AIIMS after three months. He said: “During these three months, Mukesh would be under supervision of the doctors.”
