Motihari Nagar Parishad has come up with a plan to end the traffic trouble for commuters. It has decided to earmark a place for the roadside vendors and their family members.
In the first phase of the move, the civic body has proposed to create a vending zone in the heart of the town on 1700sqm area. As many as 104 thatched stalls would be built at an estimated cost of over Rs 30 lakh for the roadside vendors, a major reason behind the regular traffic snarls in the town.
The contract for the construction has been awarded to a company in Motihari. According to the contract agreement, the work was supposed to start on June 11 and completed within three months. But the construction did not tee off on time because of some technical problems.
Now, the work would begin within 10 days. The proposed deadline for the completion of the work is September 10.
Chairperson of the municipal corporation Prakash Asthana said: “The accommodation will not only help the vendors do business peacefully, but it would also help the civic body generate more revenue.”
The vendors, however, were not very optimistic about the move. Islam Ansari and Laxman Mahto were among several vendors who said they could become victims during the shop allotment process.
