Patna, Jan. 7: A UPSC aspirant today found himself on the wrong side after he was put behind bars on charges of eve teasing.

Government railway police (GRP) caught 30-year-old Rehan, at Patna Junction after passengers he was travelling with complained of eve-teasing and beating up the woman’s husband as he protested.

The incident occurred in Secunderabad-Patna Express, which was approaching the Patna Railway Station.

GRP inspector Ramakant Prasad said: “Rakesh Prasad, who works in Gwalior was travelling with his wife Sunita Patel in coach number S-7. They boarded the train from Chhapra. When the train reached Arrah, a passenger named Rehan boarded the train and sat in front of Sunita, while her husband was sleeping on the upper berth.”

He said: “Sunita was sleeping on the lower berth with a blanket. Eye witnesses said Rehan slipped his leg into her blanket and later tried to remove it. The lady opposed his behaviour and woke up her husband and informed him about the act,” said Ramakant.

The GRP officer said: “As the train was approaching towards its destination, Rehan started misbehaving with the couple. He broke the bangles of the woman, resulting in a minor injury. When her husband tried to stop him, he started beating up Rakesh. Being well built, he thrashed Rakesh. When other passengers tried to intervene and stop him, he got into an argument with them as well. The fight took place between Bihta and Patna.”

Asked how the GRP was informed about the incident, Ramakant said: “A passenger called up on my mobile and informed me about the fight. When the train reached here this morning, we caught him and registered a case against him on the basis of the information given by the couple and other passengers.”

The couple is based in Chhapra and they were here to meet a relative who stay at Kankerbagh area.

Ramakant said: “The man is a UPSC aspirant and hails from Phulwarisharif area in Patna. He is married, but does not have a child. His father is a retired government official. He started speaking in English, in an attempt to defend himself. But the truth came out as we became rough.”

The GRP officer stressed on the need to have strict rules to book eve-teasers.
