Patna, Jan. 31: At least 20 officials of the statistical directorate of Bihar would turn flawless tabulators after a two-month training, starting from tomorrow with the help of World Bank.
World Bank consultant Nand Kishore Singh would impart the training to 20 officials of the directorate. Prior to the commencement of the training programme, Singh visited the state.
He stayed here for around 20 days to assess the requirement of the employees and designed the training module.
Post training, the 20 employees would be able to come out with critical analytical reports based on the collected data.
“The training to be provided by the World Bank would be an icing on the cake. With trained manpower at our disposal, we will be able to do the tabulation and analysis work on our own from the 67th round of National Sample Survey (NSS) data collection work,” said a senior official of the directorate.
The statistical directorate of Bihar was set up in 1948-49. But it failed to change with the time. This resulted in non-tabulation of data. Consequently, analytical reports were not prepared.
Sources in the directorate said things moved normally till the 52nd round of NSS. From the 53rd round of NSS (1995-96), the tabulation work virtually came to a standstill, leading to non-generation of analytical reports.
“Lack of manpower led to a situation when tabulation work came to a standstill. Almost no tabulation was done till the 60th round of NSS,” a senior official of the statistical directorate told The Telegraph.
Things, however, changed during the NDA rule in the state.
Steps were taken to ensure tabulation and analysis works were carried out on a regular basis. World Bank, too, supported the government’s move.
It provided the services of an agency, which did the tabulation and analysis of the 61st round of NSS data.
“World Bank has also accepted our request to do the same work for the 66th round of NSS data as it also deals with the household expenditure sector, the topic of 61st round of NSS,” said the official.
