Patna, July 20: If waterlogged roads in the state capital gave nightmares to you today, brace up for worse tomorrow. A2Z Infrastructure Private Limited, which carts garbage from the major thoroughfares and nine wards of the city, has decided to suspend its services from Thursday.

The private firm today sent a formal notice to the civic body in this regard. The company officials said it was “inevitable” after Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) failed to clear its outstanding dues.

The firm had given a similar notice to the PMC on July 3, after which the government agency had promised to clear at least 75 per cent of its dues. The company had rolled back its decision after the assurance from PMC but had made it clear that it would suspend its services if the payment was not made according to the promise.

Sources in the corporation board said sanitation on all major roads could go for a toss tomorrow onwards if the private company, which clears garbage from all the main roads and ward number 1 to 9 in the city, stops its services.

“It has been raining almost the entire day and it would be huge trouble for the capital if garbage remains dumped on the busy roads,” mayor Afzal Imam said.

Sources close to the PMC commissioner said the dues of the private firm could not be cleared because it was found violating several clauses of the agreement and its performance had not been satisfactory. They also said the vigilance department had objected to the breach of agreement by the private company.
