Muzaffarpur: Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology (MIT) principal J.N. Jha lodged an FIR with Brahmpura police station on Thursday, saying he fears a threat to his life from hostile students of the engineering college.

He alleged the students were calling him from unknown numbers and talking rudely or issuing threats for having evicted them from their hostels. Some of them even posed as parents of students. Using abusive language, they asked for shifting the exam centre from BRA Bihar University exam hall to some other place.

MIT has been shut down indefinitely following violence on the campus. Students had damaged college assets and furniture estimated at around Rs 40 lakh on December 14.

In a detailed report sent to the science and technology department of the state government, the principal said unruly students had completely destroyed a smart classroom and other assets of the college. The students are protesting because they do not want to write their semester exam at the BRA Bihar University exam hall.

"District magistrate (DM) Dharmendra Kumar and SP City Upendra Nath Verma have been informed about the threat," principal Jha said.

The DM has asked DSP city Ashish Anand to investigate the threat call and initiate action. He said he has sought armed bodyguards. Barhampura police have intensified patrolling on the campus. "The principal's cellphone has been put on surveillance," Anand said.
