Patna: RJD chief Lalu Prasad's daughter-in-law, Tej Pratap Yadav's wife Aishwarya Rai, has made her debut in politics.

Her photographs figure prominently in the posters the RJD has put up across city for the party's 22nd foundation day, which will be celebrated on Thursday at the party office.

The symbolism is specially significant against the backdrop of the open revolt by Tej Pratap, and because Aishwarya does not have a formal party post.

Tej Pratap had declared after five days of being married that he does not want his wife to enter politics. But in the month since then, the circumstances have changed after Tej Pratap expressed his disappointment with party leaders and insiders.

Family sources confirmed that it was Tej Pratap who ensured that his wife's photographs were displayed prominently in the party posters and banners.

Asked about his wife entering politics, Tej Pratap just smiled and rolled up the window of his SUV outside his 10 Circular Road residence on Wednesday.

Aishwarya's face beams from the posters in the same line of senior leaders of the party like former Union minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, former finance minister Abdul Bari Siddiqui, state unit president Ram Chandra Purbey, and former minister Alok Mehta.

Tej Pratap and his younger brother Tejashwi Prasad Yadav are also there apart from father Lalu Prasad.

Aishwarya's face is between Misa Bharti, the eldest daughter of Lalu, and Rabri Devi.

The poster has also been put up at 10 Circular Road and outside the RJD office.

" Laluji ke sandesh ko ghar ghar pahuchana hai, Tejashwiji ko mukhyamantri banana hai (Lalu's message has to reach all households, Tejashwi has to be made the chief minister)," the poster declares.

RJD insiders, who spoke under cover of anonymity, said there is already buzz that she would contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Saran, once considered the pocket borough of Lalu and his wife Rabri.

Lalu was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Chhapra constituency (now Saran) in 1977.

He later won from the constituency in 2004 and 2009.

Rabri also contested from Saran in the 2014 Lok Sabha election but lost to the BJP's Rajiv Pratap Rudy.

"Lalu ji is known for promoting his fam,ily members in politics, and earlier blessed his brother-in-laws Subhash Yadav and Sadhu Yadav. Subhash was sent to the Rajya Sabha and Sadhu was Lok Sabha member. We all know how he (Lalu) made his homemaker wife the chief minister of Bihar, then Misa was made an MP, followed by his two sons as MLAs. You should not be amazed if his daughter-in-law contests the election. Saran is a safe seat for her and she has good chances of winning," said a senior RJD leader close to Lalu's family.

Aishwarya comes from a political family. She is the daughter of Chandrika Rai, current MLA and former minister in the Grand Alliance government.

She is also grand-daughter of former Bihar chief minister the late Daroga Prasad Rai.

She is more educated than Tej Pratap, and has an MBA from Amity University, New Delhi.

The JDU took a jab at the RJD over Aishwarya's political debut. JDU MLC and spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said there is no value of party workers in the RJD.

"Dedicated RJD workers don't stand anywhere in the party," he said.

"It is Lalu ji's social justice and secularism in which only family members are promoted in the party."
