Patna, Jan. 24: Tentacles of eve-teasing resurfaced on the Patna College campus again. This time its victim was a final year student. Some youths passed lewd comments on her when she came out of her classroom yesterday.

The youth allegedly teased the girl till an employee of the college, identified as Zamal, came to her rescue. The nuisance triggered tension on the college campus.

An eyewitness said: “When Sweta was coming out of her classroom, few students teased her. Zamal, who was watching the youths from a distance, intervened when he saw the youths passing lewd remarks continuously. He ran towards the boys and asked them to leave immediately. He gave them a warning as well.”

The Patna College authorities refused to comment on the issue.

Incidents of eve teasing in Patna University have become a common affair. On December 12, police booked three students of BN College under Patna University for teasing a girl and getting into a fight with her friend.

On, November 26, three students of Vanijya Mahavidyalaya of Patna College were teased and molested by a group of boys of Iqbal Hostel. Trouble had began after a youth was found clicking photographs of a girl.

The incident of eve-teasing yesterday proved the security measures initiated by the Patna College authorities were not enough to check rowdy elements on the campus. The college had made identity cards a must for entering the campus. Police were also deployed on the college premises.

The checking of identity cards on the campus started on December 16, a day after a stabling incident in a classroom shocked the students and the teachers of the institution. But a month on, a few students were found sporting identity cards.

The anarchy on the college campus was evident today with some students of the college staging an agitation in front of the chamber of the principal, Lalkeshwar Prasad.

Prasad also demanding rollback of the fine imposed on six students who allegedly indulged in ragging at New Hostel on Patna College premises.

The students raised slogans against the college authorities demanding rollback of Rs 5,000 fine imposed on the students involved in ragging in December last year.

The disciplinary committee of the college had imposed the fine on the students. They were asked to submit the fine or they would not be allowed to fill up their examination forms.

The college principal had even sent a directive to the university’s accounts department to deduct the fine from the students’ security deposit if they did not pay up.

Prasad said: “I have informed the university authorities about the incident. There is no chance of rollback of the fine as the disciplinary committee of Patna College had imposed it.”
