This festive season, eating out will be an exciting affair.

In the season of Navratra, onions and garlic are a complete no-no for most residents in the city. But, that is hardly a cause for despair. Residents are set for a good time with innovative tasty recipes that do not need onion and garlic. Discounts at the various restaurants of Patna would add to the festive mood.

Kapil’s Eleven on Fraser Road has not gone all vegetarian but made arrangements for patrons who do not want onion and garlic in their dishes.

“Paneer zafrani, paneer lababdar and chingari paneer tikka would be some of the special items on the menu for Navratra. Residents with a love for mushroom can enjoy dishes like mushroom khurchan,” said Rajan Kumar, general manager, Kapil’s Eleven.

The dishes are priced between Rs 145 and Rs 195.

“We will not stop cooking dishes with onions and garlic. But we have made arrangements for those who like their food without onion and garlic during Navratra. The waiters have been instructed to tell customers about the special items on the menu,” said Kumar.

“We have planned tasty dishes cooked satvik (without onion and garlic) style,” said Alok Mishra, the owner of the Fraser Road branch of Roti. One of its special Navratra dishes is the Roti special mixed veg.

Residents, though, have to loosen their purse strings to try the special dishes, as cashew nut paste has replaced onions at Roti.

Navratra thalis will also be the flavour of the festive season at 17 Degrees and Ghar Aangan. 17 Degrees’ unit manager Ashok Kumar Tarun said: “We will have 10 items in our thali, including puri, jeera rice, sabudana vada, tamarind chutney and sweet curd.”

If the Indian spread gets too much towards the end of Navratra, residents could head to Mausam Manch for some Italian fare.

Sachin Rastogi, the owner of Mausam Manch, said: “We will serve a spicy pizza during Navratra. We are innovating with the recipes, as we cannot use onions. We have decided to use ingredients like chat masala to add flavour. Pasta marinated in white sauce will also be on the menu.”
