Patna, April 7: Gangetic dolphins were on the priority list of youths participating in Corono, the three-day-long fest of National Institute of Technology (NIT) that started in the state capital today. The theme of the fest was Save Ganga, Save Dolphins.

Youths were also urged to take inspiration from Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on how to cope with pressure. Students of a number of educational institutions from the state, like IIT, Birla Institute of Technology, Amity Knowledge Campus and Kalinga University, and outside, like IIT-Kharagpur and Jadavpur University, Calcutta, are taking part in the fest.

“This year, the fest is a little different. We have invited teams from 12 schools to take part in a science exhibition,” said Ujjwal Kumar, the co-ordinator of the fest.

Among the teams that took part in the exhibition were Delhi Public School, DAV BSEB, International School and Notre Dame Academy.

DAV BSEB students displayed a space shuttle and discoursed on rocket technology. Pranav Singh, a team member, told The Telegraph: “We have prepared the space shuttle and tried to explain the principle on which rockets work.”

Students of International School developed a model of a smoke controller chimney that can be used in industries.

Youths can take part in 54 different events at the fest. Some of the events call for out-of-the-box thinking on the part of the participants. “Robots, prepared by the students, have to move from one end of a water-filled tank to the other,” said Madhukar, a student of the computer science department, explaining the event.

NIT director U.C. Ray, while inaugurating the fest, said students should take inspiration from Team India’s “Captain Cool” M.S. Dhoni. “One should learn from him — how to keep fighting in a pressure situation,” said Ray.
