The police are on alert after a 'suffering father' wrote to them complaining about a gang that invites girls to parties, spikes their drink, traps and forces them into prostitution.
The letter, addressed to the office of Patna City superintendent of police (SP) Shivdeep Lande, says the gang is based in Patna.
'The letter came to us around two weeks back. The police cannot name the person but he has called himself a suffering father. He said his daughter has undergone the trauma he is talking about. The information is shocking and the police are verifying the details,' the city SP, told The Telegraph on Wednesday.
The letter talks about the modus operandi the men employ. They target young girls, particularly those studying in colleges and schools.
'Going by the information received, the group organises parties at high-end hotels and restaurants of Patna on occasions like Christmas, New Year and Valentine's Day. These parties are effectively marketed and publicised so that it reaches everyone's ears. To lure these girls, their entry to these parties is kept free. At the parties, the girls are served soft drinks, even liquor if they ask for it. The drinks are laced with substances that make the girls semi-conscious,' the officer told The Telegraph.
He further said: 'Once the substance begins having its effect on the girls, the gang films them in compromising positions with men and then begins blackmailing them. As the investigation is still on, the police cannot name the places where these parties are allegedly organised. For now, one can only say that the police have identified the spots and action would be initiated soon.'
Police sources said the leader of the gang, who shares his name with that of a very popular Bollywood star, runs a business from a commercial-cum-residential complex in the heart of Patna.
'The festive time is on and many parties will be organised at different places in Patna. The police will definitely check these places to make sure no illegal activity is going on. Also, the parents of girls are advised to keep an eye on their children as it is their primary responsibility,' the SP said.
