Strong Resolution

Jess Dutton, the deputy high commissioner of Canada in India, speaks at a seminar on forced child marriage organised at Patna Women's College on Tuesday. Dutton stressed that it was not just an issue for India but for the world. He said: "Last year, around 14 million girls were forced into marriage all around the world. Girl rights is a priority for both Canada and India. Last year, over 100 states co-sponsored a resolution, calling for a panel discussion on child, early and forced marriage and Canada was a part of it. Passing resolutions and making stringent laws and implementation can help to reduce these social injustices." Text by Faryal Rumi, picture by Ranjeet Kumar Dey
